Default Bernard Hopkins: Your general opinion

    of him as a person?

Perhaps this thread has been done before but it really dosen't matter because I wasn't here to see it.

I lost alot of respect for what the man said in the stand off against Joe Callzage, he just appeared to be another stereotypical thug.
I can not respect a fighter who can not respect my race.

After a bit of thought I wasn't even bothered by Bhops comments.he obviusly knows theres a double standerd and knows he would get away with it so why not chuck it in to get more people watching.

Although of course i wasn't happy with it. It just didn't really affect me in any way.

but I know with my ancestry that neither Moors nor Mongols are in my bloodline. It can be traced rather easily.I like B-Hop but it was pretty pointless to say such stupid S**T.While most of you will despise me for saying this, but let's be honest who is the most likely race to buy tickets, especially at ringside.White people.Pure and simple.

bernard hopkins has come a long way from where it all began foe him, after leaving prison the warden said to him " i'll be here when you return" b-hop never returned, he used boxing as his way out that world.

as a boxer b-hop is a world class operator and uses mind games to gain the upperhand on his foes, as he's got older this has come more into his game plan.

i like most others don't aggree with what he said to joe and feel a man of his status who does so much work with youth offenders should lead with more sportsmen like conduct and leave such talk out of his frame, however i'm still a big fan and love listening to him at press cons as hes quite entertaining

he does help alot of young offenders, is prove that dedication and a clean living life style makes a big diff, he should be rememberd in years to come for that and not his silly coments in an effort to sell tickets

I dont think what Hopkins said about losing to a white guy is racial at all. Its more to do with the perception that Black people are more athletically gifted than white people and to lose to someone who is viewed inferior would be a hard pill to swallow. It happens a lot at the athletics club i attend when a white athlete beats a black athlete they diss the black guy with comments like "shame u lose to the white boy..ect". Its not ment in a racial way as after they will all hang out and socialise with eachother.

As for Bernard the fighter hes a genius 40+ and still beating world class fighters very few other sportsmen would still be able to maintain that type of level so many years after their prime. He fights dirty when he has to, uses his strenghts to his advantage and always stays to his gameplan.

I dont see Joe completely dominating Hopkins as i believe Hopkins will up his punch out put a bit and slow the action down when he needs a break by holding and leaning on Joe after throwing a few shots. Hopkins ll be going into the fight more accustomed to the weight than Joe and i think Bhop could even get a Ko if Joe is as careless as he was against Kessler leaving his chin out and showboating. Hopkins has a bit of power as we have seen when he had JT shook and i think there may be one more big performance in the wiley old dog yet

It's a broad sweeping generalization about a race and is therefore racist.

It's just not a smart thing to say anymore...it's archaic and there is no need for it in boxing anymore

I respect Hopkins as a fighter and also the fact that he has come far from his time in jail. I also do not think that there are many out there that have the in-ring boxing IQ that he does. However, I lost a lot of respect for him as a person during his behavior leading up to the Trinidad fight. Putting down Puerto Ricans the way he did was really unnecessary and classless. His remarks on Calzaghe were typical of Hopkins. Surely there has to be a better way to sekll fights than cultural insults.

He's a tough guy, a blue collar fighter, cagey difficult to beat and even more difficult to beat looking good.

He's a new version of Marvin Hagler...not the same style but the same aura and the same fighting spirit

Who cares what your race is. Hopkins is a great fighter. And he will smash Calzaghe
