Default Why the HECK is Mayorga being considered an opponent for Cotto?

WTF has this guy done to jump ahead of the top WW's? The plan is for the Cintron/Tony winner to fight Cotto unless they get "injured" in which cae Mayorga steps in. What a crock of crap."Injured" also means 2 other things:

    Looks too dangerous
    Doesn't look good.

I have a feeling if Margarito wins,he's going to get shafted.

Why the HECK would you not want to see Cotto and Mayorga get it on?

That's a crazy fight, Mayorga is on a high after beating Vargas, he holds two wins over the current number junior middleweight in the world and his fight with De La Hoya took over 900,000 buys.

Commercially his devlish wild man persona draws crowds and PPV's and he has a fight style that guarantees excitement in every fight.

I'd FUCKING LOVE this fight to happen!

Why would I not want to see this fight? Gee...let me think about that...

*when was Mayorga last fighting effectively at 147?

*Since when does a win over a shot to shit fighter like Vargas at a weight class 24 pounds higher qualify you for a fight v a top name at 147?

*Why would Mayorga v Cotto be more exciting than Margarito/Cintron/Williams/Clottey v Cotto? Those fights are also more meaningful too.

I'm sick of these gimmicky fights. Mayorga couldn't make 147 and fight effectively.

Perhaps Mayorga doen't deserve a shot at Cotto. However, this fight is being considered for a variety of reasons. First, Mayorga, with his pre-fight antics, will definitely make this fight a highly anticipated one. It will be interesting to note how the flamboyant and LOUD Mayorga will affect the calm and stoic Cotto. Will Cotto lose his cool during one of those press conferences that will surely be scheduled? In the ring, Mayorga was pretty good/strong at 147. Can he make the weight? I am sure he can for millions of dollars. Also, when has a Mayorga fight not been interesting or exciting ? Cory Spikns? That's the only one I can think of. The constant pressure Mayorga (and dare I say equal or more power than Miguel) brings to a fight will certainly test Cotto and lead to an exciting fight. I would definitely like to see this fight and if Miguel is offered a lot of money, he would, without a doubt, take it.

Don't think Mayorga can get down to 147 anyhow. But he could with the help of some supplements and what not. IF there is mucho dinero involved, Mayorga's weightclass shifts from Pacqauio to Tyson.

It would still be an entertaining fight. A good rubber-match fight and a sure win for cotto.

It shouldn't be on PPV though.

Mayorga is still dangerous with those crazy punches. If he can surprise and hurt Cotto, this may be a hard time for the Boricua. However, Cotto should dominate this fight after a couple of very exciting rounds. I see Cotto putting pressure and changing to counter attack constantly during the fight. I believe this may be a good mental training for Cotto to prepare for bigger things such as Floyd.

I am sure that if there is a good pay, Mayorga will have a lipo if needed to make the weight

I'm of the opinion that you gotta earn your way to the top fights. And you have to be even-handed. In other words, it has to apply the same for everybody. While a Cotto-Mayorga fight would no doubt be exciting stuff, I'd have to agree with those that question what has Mayorga done lately to merit a shot at Cotto.
