Default Is is time for Emmanuel Steward to retire?

This guy hasn't looked good since Lennox Lewis was in the ring.

He's taken great champions and turned them into chumps and his prospects fall at the first hurdle.

They should put this guy out to pasture, let him concentrate on his HBO work and grow old with dignity like Larry Merchant.

He shouldn't be in boxing anymore, he just doesn't have anything left.......

that AND it seems like his top fighters weren't listening to him during the fight..

think of Jermain Taylor getting yelled at in the corner, and not listening or adjusting.. Wlad Klitschko not KO'ing Ibragimov or even trying when Emmanuel was yelling at him in the corner..

im dissapointed too, andy had steward in his damn corner but it seem like he had nobody there. Did he even teach andy how to hold like how he taught lewis and klitscko brothers? wtf steward? did you forsee that andy would never need to?

I think Stewart is still capable of being a good trainer, but he has just spread himself too thin. He does his HBO work, has about 500 fighters in his stable. How can he spend any real time with a fighter?

He has become too much of a celebrity, and I imagine that unless you are a champion, time getting actually trained by him is probably very minimal.

Yeah the same as we see with Freddie Roach.

Personally I'd rather have a small time trainer dedicated to me like Hatton and Pavlik have or else a skilled uncle like Floyd.

If a trainer has more than 10 fighters in his stable I'd say thanks but no thanks and go with a trainer who viewed me as their priority.

Steward is a great trainer. Fighters lose sometimes, Emmanuel can only do his best outside the ring but when the bell sounds the fighter is on his own. He gives the right instructions, but as mentioned above sometimes the fighter doesnt listen.

I dont buy into the whole trainer as guru thing anyway. Steward has trained great fighters but also his share of tomato can hype jobs. I dont think he should neccessarily retire but people shouldnt expect that just because Manny is behind the camp organisation that a top fighter will automatically emerge.

He definitley looks a little sparse.Cintron ignored him All night as well. I can not remember the fight but it was nationally televised about 12 years ago he actually walked out of the corner and went to the dressing room between rounds. Ive never seen that before(?) but he berated the guy in between rounds, urged him to fight harder or he would leave.........and he did leaving the cut man to fill in.That was Insane. On USA tuesday night fights I Believe ??

Manny's an encyclopedia of boxing, but there certainly does seem to be a communication problem. It's probably like Bilbo said that he spreads his time so thin that when he's actually in the corner the fighter isn't sure to take his word or not since they've primarily been working with other trainers, who perhaps have given slightly conflicting advice.

I read about Manny and the great work he did with the no hopers as well as the prospects that walked into his gym in the early days. seems he taught them more than how to splip the jab and counter - I wonder how many lives he 'saved' from the street in those days...

The trainers role during a fight should not I think be underestimated. The right words and instructions at the right time can be invaluable but if the fighter loses respect for him and is not listening then it's time for trainer and fighter to part company. It used to be that the trainer was the 'boss' but more and more now once a fighter 'makes' it they forget what got them there in the first place - Naz and Ingle is a good example.

I think the experience and knowlege that Stewrad has is a gold mineand it would be a shame to see that go out of boxing.
