Default RBR -WBU Featherweight title -Derry Matthews v Choi.

Okay I'll do a RBR for this so no one misses out

I'll call his opponent by his first name Choi as his second nme is too long.

Fellow scouser Derry "Dirty" Matthews v Choi set to start in a couple of mins

    Rnd 1:

Scrappy round, fouls by Choi and not much landed by either men, good left by Choi connects. Good jabs from Matthews but I'll give that round to Choi on pressure alone.

    Choi 10-9.

    Rnd 2:

Good jabs and hooks from Derry early on. Choi is very rugged, big right hand from Choi lands and he really nailed Matthews, another big right and now a left from Choi, combos from Choi, Matthews stuggling, big round for Choi.

    Scouser in trouble so far

    20-18 Choi.

    Rnd 3:

I see nobodys viewing the thread, is the RBR really that bad ??

Matthews down 3 times in that round from 3 big hooks as Choi lands big shots throuh out OMG. DOMINANT round, surprised Derry survived.

    10-7 Choi in that round.

I MUST ADD more to this as I jumped up from the couch and my laptop nearly flew off my knee at how shocked I was.

Matthews got badly outclassed in this round which was the story of the fight, I'm very surprised how he got up as he was flat on his face after every knockdown, all hooks that landed from Choi which put him down.

    Rnd 4:

Matthews comes back, sill shaky and I ain't surprised, Choi has a breather and I still cannot believe what happened round 3 good shots and jabs from Mattews in the 4th.

    Matthews 10-9.

    Rnd 5:

Good jabs from Matthews, nice left lands and right hand from Choi connects and Matthews falls through the ropes but no KD.

OHH SHIT Matthews down from a body shot and just makes the count, gets up and goes straight back down off another body shot and Ref waves it off, Matthews down 5 times in total, Matthews rolling round the floor after that 5th KD and he was totally outclassed in there, hard to watch that actually but I struggle to see were Derry goes now, Paul Smith was ringside bellowing instructions but Matthews could do nothing.

    TKO 5th round for Choi.

I really didnt expect the result last night, Derry just took some shots that he really shouldnt have taken. He was made to look poor that night and its a real shame because I thought he had great potential to do some damage in a few years. I hope a defeat like that would really pick him up and he will be able to work from it, he at times looked good but he just wasnt up to taking that much power. He needs to work at his chin and defence, his reach is good at the weight but some of those fighters no matter how small they are really do know how to bang.

Hard luck for Derry last night but I hope he can wake up from it and recover, thats a champion in my eyes.

If he moves up to Super feather he may have the chance to bulk up a little. However there are two things that will need to be sorted if he is going to be successful up at Super Feather.

He needs to sort his defence out. He was getting caught a lot by somebody who was not that skilled. I also wonder what his punch resistance will be like off guys who hit harder.

Also what about his punch power? He was not a banger at Feather so i do not think this will improve when he moves up.

He will have to box more, use his reach and not get involved as much.

As for Choi he can not go for the British, European Commenwealth. I wonder if this changes if he gets citizenship.

Finally, Interestingly Matthews said he is likely to go the traditional route next. i.e. Regional, English, British so will be interesting to see how he does, whatever weight he chooses.

Terdsak Jandeng against Choi would be a right tear up.

Fair play to Choi, I very quickly wanted him to win the fight and expected him to.

Matthews took some whacks in there but he did look fragile.
