Default All this shit about Ricky Hatton

It's seriously doing my head in.

I'm starting to question how much knowledge you actually have to have to be able to call yourself a Boxing Expert or Reporter.

I'm fed up with the 'Hatton needs to quit' talk. It's absolute shite.

I know i sound like a broken record but i have seen every single Ricky Hatton fight (most of them more than once). I get the feeling the so called experts have only really followed him since his Kostya Tszyu fight.

Let's look at some of the shite that's been said over the last few days....

"Hatton was rocked with shots that wouldn't have rocked him 3 or 4 years ago"

Hmm so how about when Gilbert Quiros hurt him in the 1st round back in 2000? Or how about when Jason Rowland hurt him with a body shot right before Hatton answered back with a KO? How about when Vince Phillips made him hold for his life in the 4th round of their clash? How about when Magee rocked him in the 2nd round of their fight? How about when Ben Tackie buzzed him in the 12th round of their fight? How about when Luis Collazo almost ko'd him?How about when Juan Urango almsot had him down with a body shot?

Hatton getting rocked is no new thing. The only time we need to worry is when he hasn't recovered from a shot about 1 minute later. Once his powers of recovery start going, there may be cause for concern. There was no evidence of this on Saturday. He was fine.

The Hatton of old would have ko'd Juan Lazcano

Again this is bullshit when you consider he's never really had one punch knockout power. I remember him having similar struggles. He won widely against Tackie and Phillips whilst getting rocked in the process. He won widely against Vilches and looked spectacularly shite in the process. He looked just as bad against Mikhali Krivolapov (spelling?). Not putting his opponent away is not a sign of him fading. It's a sign of him facing a tough bastard who has too much pride to quit.

I just get the feeling that Ricky's shelf life with the media is close to expiring. When someone becomes so popular it's only natural for individuals to rebel against the Mainstream and decide to be part of a cult that basically has the daggers out for him. That's my general feeling on the subject. I think a lot of people are hating on him just so they sound like they know something about Boxing. Just something that seperates them from the crowd. It happens all the time in the UK. Media build someone up only to knock them back down again. It's Lewis Hamilton's turn next anyway so i can look forward to that .

Anyway i think i've beaten the subject to death now. To conclude....If you think Hatton is seriously on the slide now, i think you had a bit of a misconception about how good he was in the first pace. Either that or you haven't really seen enough of his fights.

Good shout mate, I never got into the Hatton threads because by the time I came to it they were all 4 or 5 pages long, and these kind of debates are done to the death.

But I do agree with your opinion, not sure what people expect Ricky to do!

I particularly agree with your statement about how the media hype someone and this is followed by a massive backlash. This is starting to be the case with Khan! And if Lewis Hamilton fails to win the season, it'll be the case with him also as you said.

Great post Ono, and you summed up my own psyche to a tee at the end.

Oh well.. I guess Bilbo is right after all - Hatton is crap. And always has been

Clearly his matchmakers have done a truely outstanding job... especially DUCKING Witter throughout his entire career

Hatton has peaked for sure , but he is still a top guy and good to watch,
as for the British tabloids well they are total shit and only a fool reads them.

Excellent post, it makes my blood boil when people insult him. He's not done in boxing yet, far far from it. He'd ease through ANY man at 140. I just think some people on this forum would rather put people down than priase them, I think the only time I see Violent Demise post is saying how shot a fighter is.

Ricky is not as good as three years ago, but still a good fighter. His last fight there were 56,000 people there, to retire doesnt make sense or am I missing something .

You wouldn't say that if you were on the Hatton board.

So your point is Hatton has not declined, he was just never that good in the first place? wow.

    Not exactly.

Basically i'm saying he hasn't really altered for better or for worse. Being rocked and not being able to put his opponent away aren't exactly firsts for him. So called experts are making out like it is....and thats why he should hang em up.

OK, I won't get into it too deeply due to my intense hatred for all things Ricky but he is a talented fighter and should continue.
