    Default boxing with one eye?

I lost my left eye getting hit with a hockeystick as a child. A few years ago I started to train boxing but stopped due to the fact that I wasn´t allowed to compete with only one good eye. I´m thinking to start boxing again for the great workout and fun of it, but I´m a bit worried about the chance of getting an eyeinjury to my good eye. Do anyone have experience of boxing with only one eye and what risks that are involved?
I´ve found some headgear that protect the face and eyes quite good so any direct hit to the eyes are avoided,
but I dont know if you still could hurt your eyes getting hit to the side of the head or chin even if the padding stops the force of the blows somehow, but maybe there are still a risk of getting a detached retina from blows to the head?

As a side note I also think about thai or kickboxing due to the fact that the blows to the head are maybe somehow more limited in these sports compared to boxing, thaiboxing works a lot to the body with knees and kicks and thats no problem, it´s the strikes to the head that worries me.

you would be fine sparring as long as you have good headgear. i would still suggest asking a doctor first. the chances of getting a detached retina with headgear one is very slim.

i have litle vision in my left eye and it forced me to fight south paw. I think w/ the correct headgear you should be fine to spar/work out.

if you are missing your left eye, or it is dodgy, then your best bet is to fight in the southpaw stance, like a left hander, meaning that you lead with your right.

Is it only the proboxers who risk detached retinas? It seems to happen there sometimes, frank bruno, harry greb, larry holmes, sugar ray have had detached retinas I heard, probaly more less knowed boxers too.

I read somewhere that joe frazier fought many matches with sight on just one eye. Changing to southpaw would feel weird, I wonder if the fighters who boxed with just one eye did that, if their left eye was not good?
