Default Rahman Toney fight changed to No Contest

    From Fightnews

    Rahman-Toney result changed!
The result of the July 16 James Toney vs. Hasim Rahman bout at the Pechanga Resort in Temecula, California, has been changed following an appeal by the Rahman camp. Originally ruled a technical knockout win for Toney, the California State Athletic Commission has now changed the result of the bout to a no-decision. Armando Garcia, Executive Director of the California State Athletic Commission, said ".....I have reviewed (Rahman's) appeal and have determined that the wrong decision was rendered on the night of the event. Therefore, the bout will be ruled a No Decision." Bob Arum of Top Rank called it a "true and just result. I want to commend the California Commission and particuarly its Executive Director, Armando Garcia, for handling this situation so expeditiously and for having the courage to reverse a decision made the night of the fight." Rahman said "....I am gratified. It is the right thing to do and I appreciate Mr. Garcia's efforts."

Always said it would be, it was an awful refereeing mess, shame for Toney but in a way ok for both fighters. Rahman can still fight on, maybe David Haye, and Toney won a moral victory so in terms of future matchups as good as a win for him.

Glad to see the right decision was made in the end.

On a side note, the terrible Soto DQ should have been overturned and called a win as well. That decision was even worse. If I was his opponent and got my ass beat that bad my pride would force me to concede the fight and appeal on Soto's behalf.

Trying to claim a win like that is no different to winning a gameshow star prize by stealing it in front of a tv audience of millions.

I agree with that. In the soto fight, the guy who was trying to quite was given the victory whereas in the rahman fight he guy who was trying to quite was given the loss.

Exactly. I was fine with the original decision with this fight, Rahman didn't want to fight imo. He says himself that if James possibly managed to beat him he would retire, then he basically wanted no more with a little cut well above his eyebrow after getting hit with a few good shots. It may as well have been a loss for him as far as his stock is concerned, he isn't worth squat these days and has looked crap since Maskaev KO'ed him again.

It's the right decision. If you are going to have rules, you have to follow them. Everyone who watched the fight knows Toney won anyways so there is no damage done, but it is the right call.

Was about to mention that fight too. Wonder why that one was not changed?

As much as I dislike Rahman I must say that he was hard done by and Im glad the decision has been changed.

Saying that I dont like the way results can be changed after the fight . The refs decision is no longer final which leaves the sport open to anarchy. It happend recently when Soto had his result changed, they changed Barrera - Juarez too and Winky - Simon . All of those got changed after the fight and I think if they cant get decent officials to do it correctly on the night then they shouldnt have been appointed in the 1st place.

I would never pay to see Rahman fight in the first place. He's a quitter IMO. We all know Toney was the winner, and I bet Rahman backs out of a rematch.

I wish someone would invent something to close cuts really well because i'm sick of these headbutts ruining fights.

If Haye fights Rahman then he sucks.

Rahman nursed the politics in that one.... Sitting in corner,"It was a Headbutt Right" ,He & corner got the answer they wanted and made they're decision! To me, He Quit!Just semantics anyway,Toney had em hurt up.
