He never really had that many clean KO's nor was he a great closer once he had his man hurt. He had great punching power, but he was no Joe Louis or Julian Jackson when it came to he clean one-punch finish---IMO
What do you think?

Shaver was a terrific puncher , but p4p Juilian Jackson for me was the hardest 1 shot knockout puncher.
I always thought Lennox was the best one-punch knockout fighter
I read an article on this a few weeks back, but the fact is I can't think of anyone who finished the MAJORITY of their fights with single punch KOs, and the opposition must be taken into account as well. In the same article the author lists guys who were more efficient with the number of punches they needed to knock th other guy out, and kind of discredited the whole point of his writing by putting Tyson in this bracket, who I'd think most would agree is in the accumulation of punches bracket type of finisher.
Ernie's power is legendary cause guys who shared the ring with him AND beasts like Lyle and Foreman refer to Ernie as the guy whoi had the most devastating punch.
When James Tillis fought Earnie Shavers really and truthfully Earnie Shavers should of been retired way before that because of his eye problems......
Why not ask Muhammad Ali who was the hardest hitter he fought ? or Larry Holmes there the kind of fighters who are no nonsense type of guys and would tell you upfront who was the hardest puncher they fought and guess who they said ? Earnie Shavers and i think they would know better than you considering they were in the ring with him end of topic.

Do you always believe what you hear? iT'S EASY TO PRAISE SOMEONE AFTER YOU BEAT THE CRAP OUT OF HIM. dO YOU HONESTLY THINK SHAVERS HIT HOLMES HARDER THAN TYSON. GOOD GOD, TYSON ALMOST KILLED HIM. ALI WAS NOT DECKED, BUT FRAZIER BROKE HIS JAW.
SHAVERS HAD MERCADO IN BIG TROUBLE BUT COULD NOT FINISH HIM. MERCADO CAME BACK TO FINISH THE ACORN.
END OF TOPIC--PERIOD.

Your only saying that because it flushes your theory down the toilet.......
The fact is two great fighters Larry Holmes, Muhammad Ali, who had been in there with some of the hardest punchers in history......
Said Earnie Shavers was the hardest puncher they fought and i will gladly go with there opinion because they know much more than you do about boxing and they have the added advantage of actually being in the ring with him so they can gauge how hard he hits......
Just because Earnie Shavers couldn't finish a certain fighter off doesn't mean he doesn't his power is overrated thats ridiculous logic we could go back in history of all great punchers who couldn't finish off a certain fighter but on paper it didn't look like they would last 1 round with them......
Infact heres an example for you Sumbu Kalambay fought great punchers like Mike McCallum, Iran Barkley, yet they never even come close to stopping him yet Michael Nunn who was considered a light puncher flattened him in about 1 minute does that mean Iran Barkley and Mike McCallum aren't good punchers ? do you see where your logic fails......
One last question why would Larry Holmes and Muhammad Ali lie about Earnie Shavers punching power ? its not like they were ever close friends is it perhaps that it shoots down your theory into flames perhaps ?
