Default Joshua Clottey Wants Margarito Rematch Asap

    August 04, 2008

JOSHUA CLOTTEY WANTS MARGARITO REMATCH ASAP
    By G. Leon

GL: Congrats on your victory, can you give us some thoughts on your performance? "I think I was trying to wear him down. We were thinking that he's going to get tired in five rounds. But I did what I had to do to win the fight."

GL: Was there anything about Zab Judah that surprised you?

JC: "He fought well and fought like the old Zab Judah. When I was expecting him to get tired he was still going and trying his best and that surprised."

GL: Did you think you were going to knock him out had the fight continued?

JC: "I know he wasn't going to make twelve rounds. My trainer told me to step up, from round nine to twelve I was going to go all out and I was going to knock him out. I was fighting at a regular pace."

GL: When the fight was first waved off you reacted as though you won by knockout. What was going through you head when you figured out they were going to the cards?

JC: "I was thinking, what's going on? I didn't hit him with my head. He was using my head more than I was. When they did that, I was like wow, how can this happen. I know he was throwing his jab and I knew it was a good fight, so I was a little worried. I didn't want to leave it to the judges."

GL: What does becoming champion mean to you?

JC: "It means a lot because I've been struggling my whole life to become champion. Now people will know I am champion and I'm going to look to make fights with everybody who don't want to fight me.

GL: Who do you want to fight the most?

JC: "Margarito. We have to fight again to prove that my hand caused me to lose that fight. I really want to fight with Margarito."

GL: If not Margarito, who else?

JC: "Andre Berto, he's a DiBella boxer and I would love to unify the belts and put that green belt around my waist. I want that green belt."

GL: When might your next fight take place?

JC: "I want to fight before the end of the year, but I'll have to talk to my people and see."

GL: Closing thoughts for the fans?

JC: "I really want to thank Bob Arum for what he has done for me. I want to thank Boxingtalk and G. Leon as well, and all of my fans around the world."

Clottey has certainly earned it. I'd like to see Tony rematch Williams and Clottey fight Berto. Then Tony and Clottey can fight again.

I wouldnt mind seeing a rematch. I think I would favor Margarito to beat him again, but it would be competitive like the 1st fight. Margarito has been been fighting at a faster pace since their first fight and would gt off to a better start in a rematch. MAybe the winner of a Clottey-Williams fight could fight Margarito.

I Dont Think That Margarito Can Take Clottey. If He Didn't Break His Hand I Believe He Would Of Won. Everyone Is Making Margarito Seem Unbeatable But He Fights Sloppy He Has Good Stamina And Good Work Rate But He Wont Make It Past 2 Title Defenses I Promise.

Am I crazy but in their first fight didn't Margarito hurt his hand too? I could of had too many beers that night, but I could of swore both had injured hands after the fight.

I think Clotty actually ended up hurting both.... THe left the worst but his right hand was hemmed up a bit too.

Joshua Clottey did not break his hands thats what the reports said but Joshua Clottey later admitted he didn't break his hand this is one of the biggest myths in boxing today.......

And as i've said about 10 times Antonio Margarito had a severe sprained ankle and a shoulder injury before the fight so he also wasn't in top shape either so lets be fair here.

Thats BS he really did hurt his hand and Margarito fans will stand tall for their guy i understand but i guess time will prove everything Clottey and Paul Williams are the men right now. Margarito shouldn't just get a rematch with Cotto or Williams i think since Clottey lost 2 Margarito they should fight first and the winner fights Paul cause he beat Margarito. Berto he to have a lil more fights b4 he just in the mix if you ask me
