    Default 5k

hey guys.. so i'm going to be training for a 5k which is in about 2 and a half weeks.. I know that the chances of me winning aren't great but i want to finish at the beginning of the pack.. so i'm aiming for somewhere around a 18-20 minute finish..

besides the obvious "work your ass off and train" method, do any of you guys have any secret methods of training for this type of endurance test? I've read to load up on carbs the day or two before hand.. get up early, have some oatmeal/fruit for breakfast and go for a jog and do some sprints to get the blood flowing, but any other methods would be great..

Well to get my edurance up for boxing i do few miles in the morning and also run up a few small hills, i do skipping and i use a crosstrainer etc. I know this probably won't help but i thought i'd share some of the things i do.

You havent got the time to change much, I dont know what space you have to train ( track or a field) and your condition. Its under 3 miles so should not be to hard, Start easy finish strong is the best way to run it.

    thanks all..

just so you know, i'm in decent condition.. i exercise regularly..

tonight i didn't have much time, but i ran 2 miles in a little under 15 min.. my breathing was fine i definitely would've been able to keep the pace for a bit longer, but i cramped up BAD in my abdominal area.. on both sides, and it's nearly impossible to work through.. what is that due to? not enough water? too much water?.. any way to prevent that, besides stretching the area?

I think its caused by lack of blood and oxygen flow. Make sure you are taking deep breaths while you run and are well hydrated. Other than that i dont know what to tell you. GL.
