Default The sport of boxing... THE REASON WE WATCH!

Boxing is an amazing sport. Should you be a fan of other sports which I assume all of you are understand this.

Boxing is unlike any other sport due to the fact (all the cliches... Man on the island... Man on man... Whatever) that it's two warriors that MUST... I repeat MUST know themselves very well. Know themselves better then their opponent.

Other sports... any of them are drastically dissimilar. In American football or baseball we have "rebuilding years" but they will regain over the course with draft choices and fresh blood.

In boxing we have to be satisfied with watching a fighter... Our hero, rise, become a champion and decline... It is a beautifully sad dance that has happened for centuries.

As fans we're forced to deal with that...

No better fight to show this fickleness of boxing fans was the Pavlik Hopkins fight.

I have always been an avid Hopkins fan yet have fast become a huge Pavlik fan.

I have watched Bernard come from a Jackal to a Possum ... It was an amazing journey but I thought that the journey would end with Pavlik as did so many Hopkins fans. Turned out he also could become a wolf.

I, as a huge Hopkins fan chose against him with Pavlik. I was wrong... But Hopkins is anomaly...

Boxing forces... It forces you to be fickle... It's part of the game.

I am a huge Jones fan but I think Calzaghe will win a wide decision...

Will I be wrong twice? I hope so....

(Just so you all know I think Joe is an amazing fighter so don't barrage me with pro Joe comments but Jones is a clear cut ATG)

yea i had a slight feeling he would win but he was the underdog. it was a good fight though but i felt i got cheated outta 50$ afterwards cause the fighter i wanted to in win lost. but was a good fight, i cant wait for the rematch, thats if they both win.

    Yeah in boxing people also say as they do in life "the King is dead long live the king".But in that case it was;
"Whao the King is back hes done up the new prince!"

Great points Pride of Boston. People who attack boxing don't understand all that's going on in there. Heck, I've been a fan for years & I admit I don't know all that goes on in there. Puncher vs. boxer, nice guy vs. trash talker - it's just fascinating at times. Old guy vs. the hungry young lion. You mentioned other sports too. While I may pull for a certain fighter, if the other guy I'm pulling against is better & wins, I have to respect that he's just the better fighter. In team sports, how many times has the team you pulled for lost due to one dumb play or player? The team you root for played a great game, deserved to win but one bone headed play lost them the game? Now that's frustrating to me! With boxing, unless the guy gets robbed by the judges, we know who deserved to win most of the time. And the best part, they can always have a rematch. A blown call by a ref in a Super Bowl, you don't get to have a rematch 3 months later.

In no other sport, except maybe baseball, can dumb lucky happen like it can in boxing.
You can easily be cruising, this is easy, and Im going to win,and then that stupid punch comes out of nowhere, the world goes white for a second, and then your desperately trying to figure out what in the hell happened there.
And unlike baseball, you dont have a second to think about your next pitch, youve got to drag yourself up,and try to survive until you get the cobwebs the heck out of your head.
Why guys dodge or hold so much after a knockdown, even if you get up from a flash, getting your battle grid back on line just takes the time it takes. Its like slowly waking up from a dream.
