Default Is this true about Pavlik?

Team Pavlik arrived in Kelly’s dressing room at Boardwalk Hall on Saturday night at 8:45 PM. Several minutes later, Dr. Domenic Coletta of the New Jersey Athletic Control Board came into the room to administer the final pre-fight physical. Everything went according to form until Coletta asked, “Are you on any medication?”

    “Yes, sir.”

    “What for?”

    “Bronchitis.”

    “Did you have a fever?”

    “Not today.”

    “Before today?”

    “A hundred and one degrees.”

    “What have you been taking?”

Mike Pavlik handed a sheet of paper to the doctor. “Here’s what they gave Kelly.”

Coletta scanned the list. Mucinex, penicillin (one shot on Wednesday night), and ciprofloxacin (500 mg twice a day through the day of the fight).

    “How do you feel now?”

    “Okay.”

Is it just me or was it a bad thing to go ahead with that fight? This is the first I have heard of him having the flu. A columnist was in the room when this all transpired.

You make the decision before the fight.

Oh I agree, but I just find it strange that they went ahead with the fight. He could not have been anywhere near 100%. It probably would not even have made a difference, but you need to be at 100% to even have a remote shot against Hopkins. That was not Gary Lockett going into the ring that night.

No excuses for him here either, but it would certainly explain that look he had on his face the whole fight. He seriously just didn't look to be there.

I couldn't put my finger on it, but it seemed to be more then just as a result of him getting schooled.

I believe Winky Wright had the flu when he fought Soliman. He won that fight. It was a tough one for him though.

The cat's been out of the hat for a few days now...

Kelly was sick, but IMO he wont be the 1st or the last to fight sick.
Should he have fought? I don't know only he knows the real answer.
Was it a good idea? No.
(Actually as I stated I never like the idea of him fighting Hopkins since the fight was 1st announced I said fighting Hopkins is the worst thing Pavlik could do)

Lot's of fighters have gone on to fight sick some win, some loose.

Carlos Zarate was weight drained for his fight vs. Gomez. Zarate had been suffering from diaherrea and could not hold any food in his system. Zarate was TKO'd. (I think Gomez should have been DQ'd)

Ki Soo Kim was sick for his fight vs. Freddie Little. Kim was having problems making weight and couldn't keep food down. He went on to win.
