    Default headgear :yes or no?

i say no and would like some serious scientific evidence that it helps protect from anything other than bruises and cuts. the brain damage comes from the brain (this is basic) slopping around in the skull hitting bone as it bounces side to side and back and forth . so why bother with it? it is hot, gives a false sense of safety and unless you are a couple weeks out from a fight, why bother?

I use headgear two weeks before a fight when sparring just to avoid cuts i never heard it was to protect you from anything other than that.
Impact to the head causes the brain to touch against the skull hence KO or brain damage there is no less impact with a head guard than without a headguard its the same puch if it can cause your head to snap back it can ko you and its the neck muscles that dictate weather your head snaps back not a head guard

many boxing dads seem to think it keeps junior from hurting his precious brain, i just feel it gives trainers, some refs, and lots of boxers a sense of safety that isn't there. plus it can mess up the periphreal vision depending on the style. thanx for weighing in.

It gives a Bigger Target, plus there are concerns over impact to the Brain caused by extra turn on impact. this subject I find interesting.

Brain concussivness is going to happen with or without headgear, but cutting wont with it.
If your training a guy for a fight, you dont want him harboring a cut going in to it,because dollars to doughnuts it'll bleed by the second

Interesting topic. I admit to just assuming it would cushion the blows some. Obv. it would not do anything for flush chin shots.
