Default Vernon Forrest on Paul Williams - Is this a duck or is it valid?

"I'm a little more advanced than Paul Williams at this stage of the game. I think I've earned the right to have a super fight. Me fighting Paul Williams is not a super fight, it's a fight. Therefore, I'm not interested. I'm interested in being part of a huge event, like the one coming up with De La Hoya and Pacquiao. That's a huge boxing event. I'd like to be a part of something like that."

I can't see anyone like ODH taking a fight with Forrest, he's not much of a draw. Apparently they were negotiating with Pavlik but that fell through, luckily for Vernon.

Forrest is shot. Williams would beat his ass. And Forrest knows it. Which is why he won't fight him

I agree 100%, Williams would smoke him and I'm pretty sure Forrest knows that. I imagine a fight with Williams would earn a fair bit of coin (due primarily to Williams), but maybe I'm off-base.

I don't think there would be any public interest to watch this fight. Forrest and Williams are both relatively unknown outside of boxing fans.

But if they were to fight, Williams would dominate Forrest. I don't think Forrest would even want to go near him.

well wat other top name at 154 is there to fight besides Forrest?? Maybe Mora but Paul will destroy Mora. its kinda the only "big" fight for williams at 154. he should try his luck again at 147.

oh i forgot about santos. they both beat Margarito

I think Williams can dominate 154.I think he will not return to 147 regardless of chatter and will be tempted to rise to Middle shortly. That shaky D will catch up to him a bit but Forrest is not a dummy, realizes he has one or two biggies left and no shot at Rue Paul.

    Exactly!!!

I laughed my ass off yesterday when I read this.

$hit, Forrest is delusional if he thinks that he is also a "Big" event fighter at this point in his career.

And I guess if he was trying to get a fight with Pavlik, that means he's probably going to give up his belt today, because today is the deadline for him to decide whether or not to fight Sergio Martinez. He probably wants no part of Martinez either.

I kind of wish that Vernon would have gotten Pavlik's next fight in February, because I'm going to go, since it's in Youngstown, and I would have loved to see him get beaten by Pavlik.

I read not too long ago that this fight was not likely anyway because both are managed by Al Haymon, creating an obvious conflict of interest for negotiations. But, there may be a way around that because the fight makes too much sense.

Seriously, what big name is going to fight Forrest, who is not himself a big draw? If he is waiting for De La Hoya or Margarito to come calling, he is going to be waiting a long time. Williams is probably the biggest money available to him right now.

Agreed. He knows Paul will retire him like he did to Verno.

Not so sure about this I guess Surely Williams would be a deserved favourite in this fight but I could definetly see Vernon doing really well if he moves and uses his reach... He is a bunch slicker than Paul Williams. I would pick a prime Vernon Forrest to win this fight all day and think he could still do it.

Forrest now I am if about...depends on how he comes out...he would need to come out aggressive and let Williams know at once he will not be bullied or out muscled...Though Paul would be the favorite...

Agreed about a prime Forrest I take him everyday and twice on sunday

Vernon needs to fight a tougher fight to get his big fight. Would be a good fight, but I think Williams workrate would be too much and Vernon will wear down. Theres all of a sudden alot of nice matchups available in LMW. Maybe a fight with Sergio Martinez?

No not a duck...Forrest is really not that type but with that being said...

Forrest is at the tail end of his career and he knows it...He was plauged by one thing or another over the last few years...He is looking for one big name fight with a huge payday...has been for a while now....If not for the shoulder he would have been on the elite list a long time ago and more then likely retired......

The injury robbed him of his best years as a fighter...Forrest was DAMN!! good...his only real faulter in his prime was underestimating Mayorga first time out and getting Starched big...Rematch was shaky because he was trying too hard not to get caught again but after he had his confidence back despite the loss.....

Vernon has been put in some crappy situations and now father time has caught up with him...He does not want to use what he has left to fight a younger strong fighter that will not produce a big payday

Even though Forrest himself is no draw but he is trying to maximize....

Business on his behalf but not a duck in the sense of being scared
