Default The Sun thinks Valuev won

Evander Holyfield's comeback ended in defeat against Russian giant Nikolay Valuev | The Sun |Sport|Boxing

But after a lively start and some late lunges, the Yank was generally unable to trouble Valuev.

The Russian had plenty of chances to make the fight even more one-sided but failed to land more than a few glancing blows on the two or three occasions when Holyfield left himself open.

But by the eighth round, Holyfield appeared to be tiring, allowing Valuev to take steady control of the fight before fending off the American’s late attempts to swing the contest his way.

I always remember that the Sun was the only paper that gave Holyfield the win over Lewis in the first fight so that tells you all you need to know.

    This is interesting though:

Nikolai Valuev v Evander Holyfield (WBA heavyweight title)
Verdict: Majority decision for Nikolai Valuev
Why was it that so many who saw the fight on television thought Holyfield had won ? Because you see a different on tv - plus commentary, plus crowd support - than what is in front of you. Live coverage enhances perception, not television. That's why we go to these events.
From ringside, there were varying degrees in opinion, and on the judges' cards, it came down to the final round. From my position, I thought Valuev had won the fight. Yet to call it a fix, as some websites and commentators have done, is wrong.
With little action, it was a fight which was clearly difficult to score, and all three judges agreed on only four rounds out of the twelve (rds 2, 6, 8 and 12).
Valuev won the last round on all the judges' cards. Had Holyfield won the last round on the three judges' cards, he would have won the fight by split points decision.
    World Boxing Association judges' cards
    Guillermo Perez (Valuev/Holyfield) - 9-10, 9-10, 9-10, 10-9, 9-10, 10-9, 10-9, 10-9, 9-10, 9-10, 10-9, 10-9. Draw 114-114
    Mikael Hook (Valuev/Holyfield) - 9-10, 9-10, 9-10, 10-9, 10-10, 10-9, 9-10, 10-9, 10-9, 10-9, 9-10, 10-9. Valuev wins 115-114.
    Pierluigi Poppi (Valuev/Holyfield) - 10-9, 9-10, 10-9, 9-10, 9-10, 10-9, 10-9, 10-9, 10-9, 9-10, 10-9, 10-9. Valuev wins 116-112.

I think that's just a press release that all the UK papers took and produced at their fight report because the Guardian had the same thing. Although saying that skysports.com had a different one & still seemed to think Valuev won

I thought Holyfield was gonna get pummelled, he did alot better than I thought and Valuev hardly did anything, that being said he did land more punches than Holyfield, who was content to hop around the ring edge.

Im surprised his legs allowed him to do that for 12 rounds but he wasnt really being made to fight.

Valuev is turning in to Jamel McCline, a massive man making no use of his advantages, every time Holyfield came in to hold, Valuev literally pushed him across the ring, all Valuev has to do is fight reckless, no need for power, just keep the punches flowing.

I think its more nostalgia that makes people oversee the punches Valuev did land over Holyfields impresion of being busy by hopping around.
