Default Is boxing more dangerous than it used to be?

Do you think boxing became more or less dangerous with the introduction of boxing gloves?
Boxing gloves dampen the punch and protect the hands. As they protect the hands headshots became more prevalent. Before, there were more body shot as if you hit someone in the jaw you ran a high risk of breaking your hand.
I saw a statistic somewhere that since the introduction of gloves, brain damage injuries in boxing has risen quite a lot.
Do you think the pros outweight the cons?

Did they even have video cameras back when the boxed with no gloves? I've never seen a 'legal' bare knuckle boxing match.

well they used to box 15 rounds 20-30 years back and in some cases had much heavier gloves than you get today so to answer your question NO

Certainly not. The fighters safety has been a primary concern the past decade. Try to watch some ESPN classic fights and you'll see how a lot more brutal and meaner the sport of boxing was before. You'll rarely (or never) see the referee stops the fight early. That's the scariest part as I've been the type of fan where I scream to the TV screeen whenever I see a fighter getting unnecessary punishments and the referee is just staring blanks like my old man does. I hate that.

Oh yeah, some of the older fights where a guy just gets pounded and the ref just waits till they fall before doing anything, guys getting knocked over countless times in one round. Brutal

Or do they already have pens and papers to record the deaths and brain damages fighters suffered during those times?

Has James Parkinson have atleast been born when they use to fight using bareknuckles?

First Off, I believe and agree that boxing is not more dangerous than it used to be but having said that I also think it has to be qualified as 'in general'. Example: Stepping into the ring against Hatton is far more dangerous than stepping into the ring against Carson Jones.

    M
ake no mistake any blow to the head is dangerous padded or otherwise. And the effect blows have to the brain accumulate. A concussion happens when the brain slams against the skull. Some have a small effect and others have a large effect and they all cause damage. Boxing in and of itself is a dangerous sport.

No. Fights are shorter, fighters are generally less dirty, and there is far more of an emphasis on protecting fighters from serious harm inside the ring.

Still punching eachother in the head and smashing brains around....Cant really get more or less dangerous.

Probably see alot more miss-matches though - That's dangerous.
