Default Jones Jr. vs. Sheika Saturday ?

Alot of things come to mind when seeing this one on the docket.First and foremost......Is anyone actually paying for this one?I honestly want to see Jones retire in a huge way and think that no one wins in this fight.Sheika has not been active and in Jones prime would go the way of a Merqui Sosa and what either gains is questionable.A sheika win would produce a name on the resume but Jones is as past it as they come, its painfully obvious.A Jones win does what ? Encourages him to continue on to bigger names and yet again, show his years? Why

Tha only thing I can see is that Roy wants to go out a winner, literally.Hopefully its a fair well fight...one last opportunity to display his proven but vastly eroded skills, hand raised and crowed cheering. Then hang up his Championship gloves for good.I hope so anyway.

I have never pretended to be the biggest Jones Jr. fan...but he has been one of the best in a generation. He does not need this to be remembered as a winner. The mans been there...and done that in tremendous Championship fashion.Legacy intact!!

I am hoping that both Jones and Byrd lose this weekend and hang them up. Jones really can't do anymore for his legacy, this is just payday events from here on out. As far as the fight itself goes, I'm actually backing Sheika here with no confidence though. Sheika should be durable and active enough to win a points decision here, barring of course his hands don't break early in the fight. And no, I won't pay for this.

    yep

Only one thing thats keeping jones in a boxing ring and thats money

what stinks even more is they`ll be promoting UFC by having kimbo Slice and a couple of others fighting on the undercard and that dont sit well with me!!!

I hope Jones stops...it would be nice if he got a Vitali injury and could not fight this weekend but I know that will probably not happen and this crappy card will go on anyways. Plus if Jones looks good and knocks out Sheika impressively he will say that he is back and that he wants Hopkins or that he will probably go up and fight at heavyweight again blah blah blah.

MMA and boxing on the same card? What a great way to bring in profits and fill the seats for the same event :P

Ken Shamrock was going to be fighting on the undercard as well but he tested positive for three types of steroids from his last fight .. so thats it for him.

I dont know if he can even beat Shieka at this point. Omar always comes to fight and if Roy isnt at his best possible, he will probably lose. I hope its a draw.

Nope, Jones has plenty of money.

The thing that's keeping him in the ring is denial.

What if Jones really isnt as shot to pieces as everyone thinks and that maybe Tarver, Johnson and Calzaghe would always have had his number?

I think Jones fans would rather say jones is ruined than admit he got beaten by the better man

I think Jones stops Sheika and early, Sheika has a decent chin and if Jones can do that I dont think hes shot, not just yet anyway

I hope this is a farewell fight but if he looks good he'll stay on until someone else who couldn't have laced his gloves in his prime beats him.

I think if RJJ was 50 he would still make Omar look like doggy doo. RJJ wins a UD.

Omar is totally shot. He has been in more wars than the Marines. Brutal stuff with Pemberton, Tate AND Eric Lucas has left HIM badly damaged IMO. At one time, he was a Rock N Rolla but no more. Joe Calzaghe didn't do him any good as well, but those two with Pemberton were career enders for certain. No one should take that kind of punishment.

Roy could take him out early with a flurry, or play with him and get a UD. Either way, don't bet on Omar.

As an aside, I still hold that Roy's demise was due to his weight gain to fight Ruiz and then his loss of muscle mass to fight Tarver. The Roy who fought JC was just too old and slow and could not pull the trigger.

One other thing, the fact that Omar lost to Tony Booth in 1998 has to be one of the tryly astonishing upsets. Tony is now at 52-105-9, but was 28-44-7 when he beat Sheika by UD in the UK!!! Omar then went on a tear before he fought JC.

Have you seen the pics for this one? Both look all off,Omar puffy and soft.I fear that Jones will go out and get him with one-twos,enough to make the crowd ooooo and ahhhh and convince himself that hes ready for another huge name and major fight.I dont think he continues for the money....maybe stubourness,ego,pride,passion....all of which may end up getting him damaged.

Very sad indeed. Reminds me of Gerrie Coetzee-Iran Barkley but at a higher level.

    Anyone got links for it??

I still love Roy and hes been my fav since the Toney fight. He was a freak of nature in his hey day. Jumping hooks, insane combos, lead right hands, 4 or 5 hooks in a row, dancing while punching. IMO no one is even close.

I was hoping hed retire after beating Ruiz..lol, but its very rare that anyone goes out on top. So i just hope he puts on a show tonight and hangs em up while hes still healthy. Id love to see him go back to commentating.
