I've seen the actual fight many times on youtube, but have always wondered exactly what was made of it in those times, what kind of headlines it made etc. It is an absolute disgrace of the highest order, robbery isn't a strong enough word to describe what happened over there. Good vid thanks for posting.
I lived in South Korea (Itewong Dong in Seoul) during that time and actually saw the fight (as well as many other sports ativities). It was unreal. The other guy, Park, apologized to Roy after the fight. Everyone in the arena knew what was going on. The judges were rotten to the core and were suspended afterwards, but right there and then, the crowd reaction was mixed as if they were in shock but still happy. I believe Jones received the award for being the best fighter of the tournamemnt. He beat the crap out of Park. The entire matter was a disgrace and I believ contributed to Roy's later reluctance to fight outside the U.S.

Park Si-Hun should have lost the fight before the Jones one. A guy from Italy beat the crap out him and also got stiffed. The guy went beserk![]()

tnx for posting this wesrman.
So what is the back story. Was the US's judging the previous olympics as bad as the Koreans suggested? 36/37 decisions in fav or for the US? Not that 2 wrongs make a right, but it would certainly explain it some if they were on the short end of coming in.
was it fair judging or not. maybe they deserved 36 out of 37 bouts.
