Bound to happen sooner or later, not sure that they will choose now to execute the fight. Should be one of the most technical fights of the decade though.
For every story told that divides us, I believe there are a thousand untold that unite us.
Although I think its an excellent match-up I think it could be a lot bigger (& possibly better) a year or two down the line. If one or both of them pick up trinkets & stay undefeated against solid comp this fight has the potential to be a super fight in time.
I don't think theres any need to match these two just yet, although I am all for undefeated contenders meeting each other I think this one can sit in the melting pot a little longer!
The Best There Is, The Best There Was, The Best There Ever Will Be
perhaps this eras version of jones-hopkins...
"Sixty forty I kicks yo' ass, Sixty forty I tears yo' ass up" - Roy Jones
Allan Green would actually be a better test, mainly cause he has good power and a nice straight right, the main punch Ward is open for, IMO he's a decent talent, but if he doesn't work on some of the mistakes that he's constantly making, such as leaving the left way too low, he's gonna pay, and i think Green will force him to make those changes, thinking about it, Bika would be a better test for Dirrell, its a fight against a sturdy pressure fighter, with good power, and a good chin, but not quite iron, would be interesting to see how he does
You are only open if you are getting hit, how many times have Roy JOnes Jr, Mayweather, Whitaker, Hopkins looked open because they've had their hands down, only to be impossible to hit. Ward was so much faster than Miranda he could get away with it, I doubt he would be that open against Dirrell.
it's not the only fight that he's done it, and Ward's not the fastest fighter either, he has good speed but nothing out of this world, Miranda didn't capitalize cause the only right hand he throws is a wicked, but easily telegraphed, overhand right, Green and Dirrell both have good straight right hands, and if Ward doesn't react, well he'll pay
i've seen plenty of Ward's fights and he's hardly as elusive as Jones Jr or Whitaker, and in no way does he have the defensive skill as Hopkins, i'd say put him in with Dirrell later on, but they should get him in against solid world level competition to smooth out the rough edges, i think he has a good future but right now, i'm not so sure that he's ready for the big boys, same thing goes for Dirrell
I just read over on Dan Rapheals chat on ESPN that he doesnt think this fight will happen. He said its too early in there careers and it will be a big money fight if they wait later on to fight.
Just his opinion but I wouldn't be surprised if it didn't happen right now either. Makes more sense if they did it down the road.
Agreed. And One thing about Ward is he made sure when Miranda hit him with the left he was keeping his feet unplanted. And despite the great performance Ward wasn't even satisfied in himself, he seems to always want to get better so I'd expect him to look even better the next time out.
i think both Ward and Dirrell have good futures ahead of them, just don't want to see the same mistake that was made with Angulo, and have them rushed and then maybe pay for it drastically, i mean we don't know if Angulo will be able to bounce back and become something, but no doubt the loss is gonna take it's toll
