    Default transfer of weight

When i box i always try to maintain good balance by having my weigh distributed evenly between both feet and try to never favour one leg over the other. However people say that for proper punching power it is the transfer of weight from one leg to the other.I think this is ok if you are just winding up with one punch to throw as hard as you can but i find it much better for combination punching especialy to always maintain an equilibrium between both legs.Does this mean i am sacraficing power to maintain good balance or can i generate more power by maintaining balance.

Im not sure why you feel off balance when putting bodyweight into combinations, rather than a transfer of weight from 1 leg to another its more like transfering weight from an evenly distributed stance so that more weight is distributed to one leg than the other but the other leg is not totally relieved otherwise you risk loseing balance, if i was you i would check out the useful threads section and at the top theres a thread with tons of info and free e-books etc, it seems to me that maybe your form is a little off and maybe looking up the basics again and refreshing things might help, im sure some more experienced boxers will have more info uve come to the right place balance is everything in boxing.

I guess i have a tendancy to over think things sometimes.I'm actually fine with doing it and am quite happy with the power im getting in my punches. However im just one of those people that needs to understand how things work and i cant get my head round it.

Power comes from stability of the Head, The Oral cavity. all the senses are transferred to it and from it, its the Body balancing act to keep it where it should be, to help posture and help combat gravity. Oral perception without it movement becomes harder, ears should be equal ditance between the big toes. The Coxxys should be below the ears from that stance you generate power and move either way in comfort, plus your movement becomes faster and balanced.

Man your weight is transferring all over the place when you are fighting, sparring, practicing. Always. Even just walking. Without weight transfer you'd never have any power or hit a target. Or even be able to move.

The secret to doing it properly, and the thing we are always working on is the correct distribution of it and the maintaining of good balance as Scrap often discusses.

Mig, its simple Biomechanics. Move the Head down, you are nearer His glove, plus you stop your Diephram from working by up to 50%. Move the Head back, I dont think so . To the side, off balance. What moves the Body anywhere are Joints and Muscle, its those that move the Head. Its whats in the oral cavety that directs the movement
