Default Francisco Bojado - What Happened ?

As the title suggests, what happened with Panchito ?

I remember getting some of his earlier fights and thinking this kid has promise, he looked pretty tidy in all areas, quick hands, cute, and he seemed to know his way around the ring.

Was it a case that the kid had the talent but not the discipline ?

I remember his first loss to Rubio and he looked very fleshy and hardly in the greatest of shape and deserved the defeat. I kind of thought he would have learnt from that, and although he avenged the Rubio loss, he just seemed to switch off at times. I never saw the Jesse James fight, and there is no shame in losing a split to Stevie Forbes, but where is he now ?

The Forbes loss was over 2 years ago, and living in the UK, you just dont really here anything about him these days ??

So whats the crack with Panchito ? Can anyone shed any light ? Seems like a waste of talent to me.
Some people say boxing is a matter of life or death, it's not, it's far more important than that.

Yep, spotted him as a talent at the Olympics. Think it started of a little too much attention too soon and a wheel came off. Goes to show that you can have all the talent you like but without discipline and the right people round you you'll be found wanting.

the guy had all the talent in the world but was a complete slacker, if he was nearly as dedicated as some of the other prospects he would be a world champion by now

I agree. I think he lost his love for boxing but he was a talent certainly looked more promising than Cotto in the beginning, but he was rushed a bit too quickly in my opinion as opposed to Cotto who was brought along perfectly.

spending countless nights clubbing and drinking didn't help either

I remember watching on him the Oscar v Mayweather 24/7 show, he was sparring with Oscar. I'm sure he signed for GoldenBoy, just surprised he has never fought since the Forbes loss. He's been as inactive as Guzman over the years, another wasted talent, but thats another thread I guess.

Yeah its hard to tell what someones thinking when their heart isnt in it.
Once he was taken the distance and had to dig a bit deeper when the boot was on the other foot, like Missy said the wheels just feel off.
Just like life, if you ever think the training or the lessons are all over you get wacked.

Aside from Cotto i cant think of another single boxer i've been more hyped for then Panchito...

Followed him form the start when to see him fight and ran into him at several places like Toys R Us and also at a grocery store...

His knock out of William Adamyan is one of the best Uppercut KO's I have ever seen. I was ringside for that fight...

If you go to YouTube you can see why he derailed... Videos of him at a bar drunk and singing. Videos of him with friends dancing, he preffered that over training.

Bojado was Rick_Rack's avatar for ages, and 'Bad Boy Bojado' was his sig, I remember that...

Just checked and his last post was July 07, so that's a way back. Hope the man is alright, knew a lot about boxing did Rick and was a very passionate guy.

Wasted talent is the worst thing in the world, but discipline is imperative if you are a boxer, especially if you want to be an elite one. Boxers drink and party (Gatti/Hatton are two that spring to mind) but even those guys - when they were in training they lived like monks. It always amazes partying soccer players (Gascoigne/Best/Maradona) are the most talented we've ever seen and they can still be amazingly successful.

They way I rationalise is that on a team, you've got other guys who can do the graft. It's like when I was playing football - if I didn't want to chase back, I didn't. There are 10 other guys on the park who'd help you out. In boxing, you're naked. There isn't anyone in there to help you out, so people who've taken shortcuts in training are exposed pretty quickly. I think thats what happned to bad boy Bojado. Because that guy could have been anything.
