    How is your basic stuff?
Footwork, moving, jab and one two (jab and straight right or left), on the bag to get movements and timing down.

At the moment dedicate yourself to turning up at the gym regularly until its a habit, believe it or not thats 70% of what you need right there.
Master the basics and master them correctly if you build up too fast it like building a house on sand; patience is something thats mastered too.

Well my jab is getting better, it is pretty straight, however i still forget to snap it back as quick as i should.
as for footwork, i tend to use a wider stance, i come from a wrestling/jiu-jitsu background, so i don't really feel that comfortable with too narrow of a stance, i also plan to, possibly, transition into muay thai once i get my hands.
Also when i'm sparring the only things i really think i'm doing half-way decent is my one-two, jab feint to the head then strike the stomach (pretty successful); same with stomach to head. only thing is when i spar with lighter, shorter guys i tend to have trouble getting close and everytime i try i receive a lot of body shots, which don't really hurt, they just tire me out. so in the 3rd round i'm usually ready to take a breather.
for bag work, i feel that my timing and spacing could use some work. sometimes i catch myself throwing a jab to close when the bag swings back toward me.
also, i know my hooks could use some work for sure, everytime i try to use them sparring i might get a couple in, but they aren't as powerful as i think they should be, probably because i don't have the hip rotation down intinctively yet.
another thing about when i spar, when a guys is about to load up on me against the ropes i usually hold gloves up tight at eyebrow level and drop my level so my elbows are covering the majority of body, then i come in super close so the punches don't have full power. is there anything wrong with that? it usually means i receive a few body shots but i'm thinking; if i come in quick and push opponent back hard, i can get enough distance to get back to the center of the ring.
<i'll see if i can post a video on youtube and place a link so you guys can see how my sparring looks.>

Like many have said already JAB. Keep your hands high and jab. It may feel a little funny at first (not as comfortable as your hands lower and pounding the bag) but it does get much easier and your properly protected at all times. My big thing as of late is the mirror's. You can learn everything you need to learn by shadowboxing while looking at yourself in the mirror. Go fullspeed and see what you are doing wrong and correct it.

As for the ropes try a simple move. When you feel your back hit the ropes, pivot your front foot and swing your back leg out . This making your entire body more narrow and in an easier countering oppurtunity. DON'T swing your back leg into the opposite side as this will make you more vunerable and be able to get hit much easier.( Jesus easier done than typed I think.)

"out", meaning if i'm orthodox, right hand back and left hand forward; would be pivoting on my left front foot, then swinging my right back foot to the right?
