Default Headgear advice (competition vs training)

    Hey guys,

I just wanted to know if there's any major differences between competition headgear and training headgear.

I need to buy headgear but I'm not sure which one to buy. I was really leaning towards the following...

    Grant Competition Headgear-www.Ringside.com

it's a tad bit on the pricey side, but if it's good stuff, i don't mind shelling out 90 bucks.

I know some people will say Headgear is overrated, but we're not allowed to spar at my gym without headgear. Also I know some people will say it just makes you a bigger target, but I figured you might as well get used to it since you'll have it on your head when you compete at the amateur level.

Anyways if anybody has any other suggestions, feel free to throw em my way.

    Thanks

    Hi there,

Grant stuff is always great, no matter what they do. This headgear you're suggesting is very good, you have no worries to have quality and protection wise. From everything I've read, it seems like the Winning headgear are about the "best" so to speak, so if you are heading for the "best of the best", winning is strongly to be considered but Grant have awesome stuff and the one you suggest, as I said, is great. Go for it without hesitations, Grant is perhaps my favorite boxing brand overall.

Hey thanks for the input man, I appreciate it.

I see your from Quebec, what are your thoughts on Rival?

I was looking at the following headgear, but I wasn't really sure:

RHG2 Trad Training Headgear - Headgears - Rival Boxing Gear Inc.

as far as Winning is concerned, thats way out of my budget so unfortunately thats something I cant go for.

I couldn't tell you about the Rival Headgear as I don't know people who have used it personally but oveall, for the punching mits or the gloves, Rival has had a very good reception and I would tend to say that there is no reasons why it wouldn't be very good headgear as well. *note* I did make some researches about it and the reviews are damn positive:

REVIEW: Rival Headgear RHG-PRO - Sherdog Mixed Martial Arts Forums

RIVAL HEADGEAR Review - Boxing Forum

Even peoples in the comments who have it did add water to the mill. Hope this help you in your choice but Rival really seem to be a good alternative to consider.

Thanks again Nameless.. I think I might just go with the Grant ones though. I'm ordering something else off the ringside website anyways.. This way I end up saving on shipping.

ps. I cant reply to your PM because I dont have enough posts yet.. but Thanks!
