    Default Calderon - Segura spoiler

Calderon just got stopped in the 8th. It was a great fight from what I saw, but Segura just wore him down and punished his body.

not shocking really, i pretty much summed it up in the other thread, Calderon's speed isn't what it was nor are his reflexes, i haven't seen the fight but i think Calderon (who's ancient for a 108 lb fighter at 35) should hang them up

GREAT win for segura but you've got to give it to the little maestro, ivan calderon. i think age has finally caught up to him. a younger calderon would have beaten segura for sure. but a big congrats to segura who is now considered the jr. flyweight king.

i want to see segura fight rodel mayol next and destroy and little cheating fucker. the way mayol cheated his way against edgar sosa still turns my stomach.

Gotta admit I was shocked when I read this Sat. night I like Segura and I've had the opp. to talk to him see him train and see him fight in person.
He's a really cool guy but honestly I gave him no chance at beating Calderon.

I thought he'd be clearly outboxed.

Really proud of Segura as he's from out here in LA (Mexican born) but raised in LA.

Calderon was ahead on the cards comfortabely. I guess his age caught up with him . I wouldnt mind seeing a rematch if Calderon really still feels like he has it in him to win the fight.

As for Segura, he has heart , good stamina but isnt anything special imo .

He was behind on two of the cards, justifiably from what I saw. Only the Puerto Rican judge had Calderon winning.

I think this is the key right here. 35 might not be old for a heavyweight, but it's definitely old for a 108-pounder. Speed and reflexes are the first to go, and Ivan has never been known for his power. Calderon has had a stellar career, and should be a first ballot HOF'er... but I think he should seriously consider retiring.
