Default Odlanier Solis vs Ray Austin

Odlanier Solis-Ray Austin on December 17 in Florida - Boxing News

    By Lem Satterfield

According to Alan Hopper, head of public relations for promoter Don King, 2004 Olympic gold medal winner Odlanier Solis (16-0, 12 KOs) will face Ray Austin (28-4-4, 18 KOs) in a WBC final eliminator on December 17, with the American Airlines Arena in Miami, Florida being the likely venue. The winner becomes the mandatory challenger to WBC champion Vitali Klitschko (40-2, 38 KOs).

Hopper confirms that IBF light heavyweight champion Tavoris Cloud (21-0, 18 KOs) will defend his title on the Solis-Austin undercard against an opponent to be determined.

"Don King is has been in discussions with American Airlines Arena, and he's getting very close, to presenting a WBC heavyweight title elimination bout," said Hopper. "That bout would be between No. 1-ranked Ray Austin and No. 2-ranked Odlanier Solis, who is also undefeated, to determine who will face the WBC champion next."

Tavoris Cloud and Selcuk Aydin are on the card as well.

Solis should spark Ray Austin early on just like Wlad did. Good fight for Solis though, Ray is a decent enough boxer to win this fight if Solis comes out flat. Ray is a big guy and will help prepare Solis for the bigger Klitschko brothers.

I would like to see Solis at least try to come to fight in shape

That has been the main problem for Solis. Since he left the ams and weight LIMITS he has let himself go and IMO he has gone too far now to ever reach his true potential. To be great you have to live a good clean life, you can't just have 6 years off being in shape and still come out the other side a great fighter.

He'll probably still take Austin, but he won't get much higher than that IMO.

    Solis wins via rape.

Then Solis will face Vitali and lose like everyone else as of late.

Nice and slow. Your right there mate, if he gets any fatter he won't be able to go any slower because he'll be stationary!

He'll never meet his potential now, boxing is a sport that you have to keep on top of yourself at all times and he's let it slip by getting obese!

Yea, this eliminator is the battle of "who doesnt want to fight".

Both their activity levels are horrid, if you are to stay sharp and want to beat a (even 50yo) Klitschko bro you need to be active and well polished.

Is Austin Kings new poorer version of Tony Tucker ?? How does he get another title eliminator ? Just cannot get excited about this one.

He is still a prospect, and thus shouldn't be fighting Vitali, let alone after a fight with someone Ray Austin's caliber.

Enough with this whole idea that he's not ready, Gold medal winner Odlanier Solis 30, 16(12 KO)-0-0 won 2 out of 3 with the great Felix Savon and he's "still a prospect"?!?!?! Have you lost your mind?

Looks like he's pushing 280 for this fight

Austin will give him a fight IMO. He gets written off way too easily because Wladimir beat him with one hand. He'll be a handful (no pun) for most heavies outside of the K bros & maybe Haye.

I like Ray Austin, he's a decent fighter he's just had his career handled poorly. Ray Austin and Larry Donald were good serviceable fighters who could have done much better.
