The cobra is coming for the ghost
If Pavlik can get back to the fighter he once was a fight with Froch would be outstanding. I think Froch pummels him at this point, but Pavlik used to be one hell of a fighter.
Yeah, you could be right. He might be remembered as the type of guy who could have been so much more than he was had his personal issues not gotten in the way, but he's still young enough to turn everything around and to make his struggles little more than an impressive footnote in his career. And I say this as someone who has actively rooted against Pavlik for pretty much his whole career.
I'm not sure pavlik will ever be the same , I think the loss to bhop jacked him mentally and his personal issues may have destroyed him. I hope he returns and does well he is one of my favorite fighters seemed like a good humble guy.
I think Froch destroys him, at this point. He may get back somewhat but not at that level in my opinion. He could probably beat a Miranda, AA and such at 168, but as far as Ward, Butte, Froch..i just don't see it for him. But who knows, with the way the WBC ranks people he probably will have a title shot his first fight back.
I was a huge Pavlik fan after the zertuchi(?) fight, but it became apparent that anyone with movement could dominate Pavlik, and I was proved correct when Pavlik fought Bhop and then Serge beat the lights out of him(although I thought Pavlik did well for about 5 rounds). Anyone that can move and create angles, will beat Pavlik pretty easily.
Froch v. Pavlik would be a great fight. As Pavlik states in the article if you look at their common opponent, Jermain Taylor, Pavlik looked much better than Froch did, and Froch was fighting Jermain after Pavlik had brutally knocked him out. A lot of the same things that give Froch problems are the things that give Pavlik problems, e.g. movement. Let's be frank, Bernard would chew Froch up too.
Right now, I can't argue with Froch having the upper hand going into a fight with Pavlik - he has been in with much better opposition over the last two years - but, the fight isn't happening right now. It'll happen after the S6 finishes when Froch has suffered his first humiliating loss to Andre Ward. Assuming Pavlik stays away from alcohol, which is a big assumption, Pavlik should have gained his confidence back by then and the fight will be very interesting. Pavlik just needs to stay away from Bute in the meantime.
Remember people Taylor was in title fights all the time so he was used to it, froch wasn't used to it and hadn't long moved up in level so u could say he was wet behind ears and also defending away from home. Taylor isn't finished either and if froch fought him again the fight would b shorter with froch tearing him apart
I like this post.
The Taylor fight was a bit of a step up up for Froch back then. Like you say he had to deal with that, fighting away from home too yeah he was getting beat but he pulled the win out the bag and did what he had to do. How many shitty fights do we see where one guy is getting beat and knows it and is happy to last the distance? far too many! Froch wanted to win and went out and did the business.
As for Pavlik i think he has let himself down he needs to stay away from drink for good while he is fighting. He can get back on top but it wont be easy. He needs to rebuild and gradually step up. Very impressed with him taking on this opponent as a comeback fight, i admire that. some guys come back in ridiculously easy fights for that confidence building win and it does nothing for them in the long run. as for calling out froch be careful what you wish for you might just get it.
Pavlik is a lot like Abraham. He's sort of a one trick pony. I do not see how he is going to move his career along if he can get outboxed that badly by guys with better footwork. Pavik seriouely needs to start putting the road harder. 5-7miles, and not at a 10min/mi pace either!
