Default Max Baer vs. Primo Carnera - good video

Carnera gets knocked down 12 times by Jethro Bodine's (Max Baer Jr.'s) daddy. (Max Baer Sr.) This was a few years after the "neutral corner rule" had been enacted, but for the most part the ref and Baer seemed to ignore it. BTW, Baer wins the Heavyweight Championship from Carnera in this fight, the mo-fo had some decent power no?

    Decent pwer? DECENT?

    Max freaking Baer?

One of the legendary right hands in history. Maxie was a wrecking machine.

It says something about Carnera that he kept getting up. The Neutral corner rule was not yet really a rule I don't believe. The question was what was negotiated for that fight.

Of course Primo may have believed the winner got to keep Wonder Woman!

This fight was in 1934, I know the "neutral corner rule" was in effect at least since "The Long Count" (Dempsey-Tunney II) in 1927. For the most part the ref made half-assed attempts at getting Maxie to go to a neutral corner. You would have thought the ref (Arthur Donavon) would have stopped the carnage long before Primo asked him to.

In re: to Carnera showing heart, by continuing to get up, maybe he thought Max would break his right hand if he kept hitting him with it..

As for Wonder Woman, I used to wanna be one of those bad guys she tied up with her Magic Golden Lasso.

Yeah but the rule was NOT generally a part of title fights until much, much later. I watched the 1955 fight between Marciano and Moore the other night and a part of the ref's instructions was that there was no eight count etc.

Carnera would have been smart to stay down.
