    Default Friday boxing trivia

What Hall of Fame trainer had 94 wins and 3 losses as an amateur boxer?

When you say HoF do you mean the official IBHOF or your saying that in your opinion he has a HoF career?

Off the bat there's not that many trainers in the hall itself... Arcel, Dundee, D'Amato, Duva, Steward, Futch and Wilfred to name some.

Arcel, Dundee, D'Amato & Duva never laced up gloves I know that much. Also Beristain never laced up gloves. Same for Clancy don't believe he ever boxed as amateur.

    Wilfred I don't know a lot about.

That leaves Futch or Steward... Futch was a pro-boxer.
    So gonna go with Steward.

Dang, thats a stellar record. I'd like to know who that was. I think Steward is a good guess. The man was the #3 welter in the world at one point. But if he only lost 3 times then that is amazing.

Ding, Ding, Ding, we have a winner! It was Manny Steward, at bantamweight, I bet a lot of folks didn't know that, including me, until I read about it yesterday. 94 wins and 3 losses, not too fuckin' shabby. Let's see Teddy Atlas had like 2-3 fights as an amateur?

I just wrote this about Emanuel yesterday, as he is receiving yet another award and they asked me to make a statement.

Emanuel Steward is old school, which is a good thing. He started as an Amateur Boxer and even became a National Golden Glove Champion back in 1963, going 94 -3. He knows what it takes to become a Champion and he passes that knowledge on to all his fighters. He deserves all the recognition that could ever be given him.

I like Manny, and I like listening to his comments on HBO. I get a kick out of him when he's working Wlad's corner, and jumps on his ass about being so timid/boring, funny stuff.
