Wink Pacquiao claims Marquez is playing the 'nice guy' act so Pac won't punish him

Well Pacquiao certainly seems out of character to me in the build up to his November, 12 fight with Juan Manuel Marquez. First he seems really angry that Marquez thinks he won the previous two encounters. Many boxing experts agree with Juan.. But what's more shocking is Pacquiao think Marquez is acting nice so he wont get "punished". Wtf? Is Pacquiao being the villain for this fight? lol... Marquez has always been a humble and respectful person. Anyways here is the article.

Manny Pacquiao has turned up the heat on Juan Manuel Marquez by insisting his opponent’s “nice-guy” persona is merely an act designed to save him from extra punishment.

The promotional tour for Saturday’s showdown at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, the third part of a trilogy between the two men, has been notable for its lack of hostility, with both boxers maintaining a dignified level of respect when discussing each other.

However, Pacquiao now believes there is an ulterior motive behind Marquez’s actions and comments and insisted the tenacious Mexican is trying to catch him off guard.

“Marquez is the smartest guy I have fought recently,” Pacquiao said. “He is a genius. You know why? It is because he is trying to use my personality. He knows I am a nice person, so he thinks that if he is very nice and respectful to me before the fight then I will go easy on him and will not knock him out.

“It is very smart. But I am smarter than him because I know what he is trying to do.”

Pacquiao’s last three fights have ended in blowout victories, but all were on points. Joshua Clottey, Antonio Margarito and Shane Mosley all managed to last the full 12 rounds before losing unanimous decisions, and the Filipino superstar is under some pressure to deliver a knockout victory.

His first clash against Marquez was in 2004 and ended in a controversial draw after Pacquiao knocked Marquez down three times in the first round but then struggled against a late onslaught. Marquez was furious at the judging for the second fight in 2008, when he lost on split decision.

This time around Pacquiao is an overwhelming favorite after having established himself as one of the two best fighters in the world over the past three years. The boxing community craves a match-up with the other pound-for-pound king, Floyd Mayweather, but Pacquiao is loath to look past Marquez.

Pacquiao calls Marquez a 'genius' for tactics - Boxing - Yahoo! Sports

“I know what people want from me in the future and what they want to see now,” Pacquiao said. “They want to see me knock out Marquez because it is exciting for boxing when there are knockouts.

“I always want to win the fight, it is the most important thing and you have to take care of this business. But I have trained very hard and I have a good plan. I believe I will knock him out and it doesn’t matter what he says. It doesn’t matter if he is nice to me.”

Marquez though, was adamant that his remarks had nothing to do with tactics and warned Pacquiao that his politeness would end on fight night.

“If I say good things about him it is because I respect him as a boxer,” Marquez said. “Of course I respect him; he has fought some good fights and has good skills. It is not going to stop me from beating him and he knows he has a fight on his hands.

“I believe I have already beaten him twice and I think he knows that. I don’t care what people think, if they think it is going to be easy for him. I hope he thinks that too because I am going to show everyone they are wrong.”

Marquez playing the nice guy so that Pac wouldnt punish him??

Now that's funny. Marquez has always been nice and respectful to his foes outside the ring..

He doesn't have kids out of wedlock nor does he have gambling problems like someone.. smh

If anything, Pacquiao should stop exaggerating his nice guy persona.. He's not the saint that the media portrays him to be..

EL DINAMITA has his number but he's fighting above his best weight at age 38 so who knows...

If this is true then I completely agree with you. Out of character for Pac and I've never known Marquez to be anything but a sportsman and a gentlemen.

I hope pac fights angry cuz that's just better for Marquez. The more aggression he shows, the more counter punching opportunity he gives Marquez. Hell yea.. Be angry Pacquiao!!

People are really counting out this living legend marquez but dont be so sure.. I keep hearing early knockouts, midround knockouts etc.. lol I dont see any of that.

Pac is in for a fight of his life.. Im not ready to pick a winner just yet, but one thing is clear.. Pac is going to be taken to hell and back... again..

I'm not ready to go that far yet. It looks like Marquez has bulked up and interested to see how that affects his speed. I don't think Manny is going to come out any different than he has in the 4 or 5 fights. Roach will harness that anger and turn it into effective aggression in my opinion. But one thing I know...and Pac knows more than anyone else. Marquez has a heart that is unrivaled. It doesn't matter how bad you beat that man, you can bet your house that he'll keep on coming. My one concern for Manny is not to charge in after he lands a big shot. But like I said before, Marquez's speed is going to decide wether this gets one sided after 8 or 9 rounds, or if this is a war for 12. I'm hoping for the latter.

I do hope Marquez comes to the fight to win and not get through 12 rounds. Ive never known Marquez to be like that in the past and I hope he really tests Manny like in the first two fights.

Manny surely has the advantage at the higher weight and I hope from a fans point of view that doesn't factor too much in the fight. I want to see Manny pushed to the limit and really earn this victory.

I see a manny pac one sided affair where the weight really does factor into the fight and Marquez looks too out of depth and it's stopped within 6. or Manny takes a one sided decision because Marquez didn't have his abilities he had at 130-35.

I would love to see something similar to their last two fights but I just don't see it happening unless Marquez really does have Mannys number in terms of being able to push him to the limits.

We will see on saturday , but I am picking manny to win a UD. I think Marquez has shown in the past he can trouble Manny and Marquez has fought Manny enough to know how to survive 12 rounds against him. The move up in weight though will see manny using his skills more effectively and do enough to win. Hope we have a good fight though!
