The Sports Illustrated magazine awarded it to him anyhow. Their reason: “Yes, Montiel got up from the crushing overhand left that nearly caved in half his face but he only lasted a few seconds before the referee stepped in to save him.”

Now that you mention that Donaire's big punch was just a knockdown and not a knockout....I think Gary Russle Jr's dispatching of that bum looks a bit better. If Calvin Brock can win KO of the year for when he detonated a left hook on Zuri Lawrence then Gary Russle can win it for beating whoever the hell he put down for the count!
