Missing Bruno

Just re-watched Bruno winning a portion of the Heavyweight title against Oliver McCall

I remember it well and I got told off by the landlady cause I kissed the big screen on the pub wall (it nearly fell off)

I was proud that night...proud that Bruno had finally reached his goal, proud that one of the good people in boxing got a break...a honest, humble gentleman getting what he set his sights on, I celebrated that night and being proud to be British...brilliant just brilliant!!!

Bruno was awesome. He was likeable and came to fight. I really enjoyed watching him as a kid. An honest pro who would just fight. He didn't always win, but it was what it was. You compare him with someone like David Haye and it is night and day. Haye doesn't fight, just talks and then when he loses is all about excuses. What a joke. British boxing could do with more people like Frank Bruno.

If Bruno had a chin or at the very least come kind of survival instincts + plus stamina he'd probably be spoken about amongst the greats. Not very mobile, he was more of a bodybuilder but had frightening power as well as a great jab and 1-2.

I met him once and was surprised he was not bigger, I thought he would be massive. The Mrs loved him and I have to say when he shook my hand and said "alright guvnor" I felt like a little kid. Big Frank is a ledge, but his weight training physique limited his movement a little and he did struggle to recover once he got caught. If he had learnt to hold on or take a knee, who knows what he could have done. He could certainly bang as his record and his rocking of Iron Mike proved. He would do well in todays HW division, at least until he was forced to meet either of the Klits on German soil and endure a 12 round snoozeathon.

I think Frank would have had a decent row with Wlad or Vitali. I dont think either of them would hit him with the kind of clubbing shots that tended to put the skids under his efforts.

Im still amazed at the left hook LL hit him with, amazed that Bruno's body an head remained connected.

Was winning against Witherspoon

He clocked Tyson pretty well and nobody at that time did that to Tyson

Was competitve against Lewis

In the 2nd Tyson fight Bruno looked like he was walking to the galos and crumbled badly

So apart from the 2nd Tyson fight he held his own and probably would have won most of them if his stamina didn't fail him

Bruno is a hero and very underrated

I think you're being very kind to Frank.

He was losing to Witherspoon and was detroyed twice by Tyson and once by Lewis (although he won the jab war in the early rounds against Lewis) He was hanging on for dear life against McCall, thank god that fight didn't last another 30 seconds!
