Default Who is the greatest boxer to ever come out of Mexico?

Let me clarify I mean the greatest technician to ever lace them up, so IMO Chavez doesn't qualify, two of the names that instantly pop into my head are Finito Lopez and JMM, who is your pick for the greatest technical fighter to come out of Mexico?

Salvador Sanchez comes to mind, but we'll never know how great he could have been since his life was cut short by a car accident. He was one of the best Mexican fighters ever, that's for sure.

wasn't a motorcycle accident? either way, his record at just what 23 yrs old? was stacked, the guy did more in his short career than many other "HOF" type fighters have done in a career spanned over a decade

Marquez is tactically quite good for a Mexican but I wouldnt say he was the best because he wouldnt have got outpointed by guys like Chris John and Freddie Norwood.
I saw Barrera on Saturday and am seeing him again tomorrow so I can ask him then.

obviously Barrera would be ruled out cause if he was the greatest technician he wouldn't have been beaten by the likes of a one dimensional Manny Pacquiao or Junior Jones, and wouldn't have gone life and death with Juarez

as for John he's best known for being a very technically gifted fighter, which is what compensates for his lack of power, and Norwood was an undefeated fighter at that point

If not Julio Ceaser Chavez then Eric Morales.

I didnt put Barrera in there. You did cuz you got defensive when I ruled out the man who couldnt beat Norwood

I'll see Barrera tomorrow and ask him how it felt beating Morales for a second time

I have to go with Sanchez. He was the master of the featherweights and was only getting better.

People often mention Sanchez as the greatest Mexican but as much as he accomplished in a short period of time, to pick him as the greatest is a disrespect to the other Mexican fighters who put in work for years and years.. longevity..

He beat LIttle red lopez, big deal, and he beat a former 122lbs guy in GOmez and also Nelson who was green at the time..

Compare that to someone like Chavez who put in consistent work for long years and Ricardo Lopez who went undefeated regardless of the level of competition..

Chavez, Finito, Marquez and Morales are above Sanchez.. Sanchez is on that Ruben Olivares level...

Maybe not the best, because his career was cut short, but Sanchez was certainly on his way to becoming the best.

How about Pipino Cuevas in the list? Sure, he had some defeats in his record but he could pack a punch. Not THE BEST but oh well.

For me there is a difference between technical and tactical...
A technical boxer masters the fundamentals of defense, attack and countering.
A tactical fighter is more cerebral. They use the weapons at their disposal to come up with The most efficient gameplan for them.

A good technical fighter may be let down by his tactical capacity I.e. Zab Judah

A good tactical fighter can overcome technical limitations to utilize the advantages he does have
    I.e. Chavez, Marquez, Barerra
