Top Rank and King dominated American boxing promotion over the past few decades, then Golden Boy came along. GBP is nominally run by Fishnets but is actually run by an ex-banker who knows how to make deals and do business. GBP now have ongoing deals with several TV companies including an American network and have over a hundred TV dates every year. That takes a lot of time and effort to do and most importantly, investment. Not sure TMT will come up with the same kind of money to set up the same kind of structure or whether it's even possible.
And we have an ongoing problem where GBP and Arum don't co-promote a lot of fights. TMT have signed Gamboa from Top Rank. Most of Gamboa's prospective opponents are signed to TR. What incentive do TR have to make a Gamboa fight with one of their fighters? Same with GBP. I actually read where the GBP head, Shaefer, says he's willing to talk about matching Broner with Gamboa. I'll believe it when I see it.
Neither of the big two are going to give TMT a helping hand and have most of the top fighters signed to them. So how do TMT make regular fights for their guys to move their careers along. Boxing promotion on that scale is like chess and Floyd aside, who is a valuable piece, TMT look to be playing checkers. They'll have to spend some serious dough over a period of years and try to sign guys like Broner when they're out of contract to make any serious headway in the sport. It's not going to happen in five minutes.
