All make up what is known as the United Kingdom, (UK) so if you grew up and have lived primarily in Scotland, Wales, or N. Ireland would you take exception to being called English/British?

Yes the Welsh, Scottish and Northern Irish are fiercely patriotic and would rightly be offended as being described as English. Just as you are proud to be a Texan but also American, but would probably not liked to be refered to as Californian but times a hundred in the case of the Welsh and Northern Irish and times a million for the Scottish.
As an Englishman I totally agree with and understand their inferiority complex.:-P
Guy on TalkSport radio winds-up the Scots by calling Andy Murray Scottish when he loses and British when he wins![]()
3-Time SADDO PREDICTION COMP CHAMPION.
Great Britain applies to England, Scotland and Wales so that makes us all British.
Uk includes Northern Ireland. (united kingdom of GB and NI).
but yeah referring to the welsh, Scottish or Irish as english would be offensive to them and rightfully so.
Maybe this is a dumb question but when was the last time your PM was not English? or when was the last time the PM was from Scotland, Wales and North Ireland?
Most bad government has grown out of too much government. Thomas Jefferson
I doubt if anyone would confuse me with being from California, but since i'm from Texas, which is part of the Southern U.S. I might take exception at being called a "Yankee" (someone from the North or North-East U.S.
I can understand the Northern Irish taking exception to being called English/British, but I never realized someone from Wales or Scotland would.
cheers
That's funny, it reminds me of all the ethnic groups we have in America, Italians, French in Louisiana, Native Americans, Blacks, Latinos/Hispanics, Jews, Irish, English, German, et, al, for the most part we all get along, but when push comes to shove, blood is sometimes thicker than water.
I've noticed that when people of different ethnicities work and/or do business together, prejudice seems to fall by the wayside for the common good.
For some reason I thought you might be Irish, Dia. (no offense)
No Dia is Welsh. You can tell by the Welsh Flag above his posts with a Dragon on it. All Welsh people have a pet dragon for melting the cheese, when making cheese on toast, because they are a bit eccentric.
I agree ! As Scot I find itfunny we can battle together through wars but then go back to disliking each other. I can easily clasee mysef as British as together we have some great history. We all have individual history that makes each countey special so rightfully we are all proud of our individual indentities.
Scots are known as Jocks to some, when I worked in London the lads at work gave me the name Jockney as joke beacause they liked me and aceppted me as an honourary Cockney !
What I have found, on my travels up and down this Country, working class people are very much the same, same type of values out look. It's about the person not about were you a from.![]()
