    Default Nothing more frustrating then a coach who wil not move forward

    I have read with great interest, comments in this forum about shadow boxing blindfolded.
    I keep up with new training techniques being tried in Europe, Russia, and all over the world. I read where trainers are using Cocoa Butter instead of vaseline and getting better results.
    I have attended training seminars where new exercises are getting better results then some of the older ones.
    What is frustrating is to have the Head Coach, or other coaches listen, then shrug their shoulders and say "We have always done it this way", and are not willing to try.
    I hope some of you guys who move into training others, keep an open mind. I remember when we chopped trees, lifted buckets of water to learn uppercuts, dug ditches, and pushed cars.....old methods...and training advanced beyond that.
    I had one coach who did not believe in any weight training at all...nothing beyond 30 lbs. His thing was running..whcih is great, but in the ring, his fighters had no punch power. Finally he let me take two 'cast off" fighters and work with them for a year. They came back into the ring as winners and hard hitters.
    Keep an open mind..if it's new, find out as much as you can and try it...if it doesn't work...ok...but keep using your imagination in training.

    It is a good point!

    it is a universal phenomenon in any area. Very few like to innovate and learn, most coaches / teachers / lecturers stick to tradition...

    Good Post Gray lion, but I have a problem with Weights and Machines. I would use Resistance, Bands Fit Balls all Day long in preference to them. In the 60s I used Weights. But found I wasnt Getting the results I wanted. Reason All the Routines, We did were done on the Biomechanical Brake the Heel. Which to me was not the correct way to an athletic Sport.
    Pain lasts a only a minute, but the memory will last forever....

    were a lot of the routines back then based round powerlifting or bodybuilding?

    I used to love swinging a long pick axe handle. Nice twist with that buddy.

    Missy, any movement in motion is done by lifting the Heel. Weights are done on the Heel, different mechanics, and response in movement. TFL is not engaged as it should be, as regards movement, thats my Gripe. .

    AS an update, I purchased a 12 lbs "Burn machine" and "Burn Bar" (which you can add up to 200 lbs in weight and has a sliding cener weight----you don't need 200 lbs of course. I have gotten more results with my students out of those two, with less weight, less time, and a significant gain in strength and speed punching. I had never heard of them until I saw a young amateur at another gym using one. Just proves that training is always moving forward and we are only limited by our imagination.

    I find that with certain moves too.
    Some moves will only work in the right situation even if you have create that situation first in the fight. Many will shoo that stuff off but that stuff can be the unseen unexpected finishes.

    I like the above post a lot...
    It actually brings up an annoyance I have; I take issue with the buzz-term "sports specific." I see guys in the gym trying to simulate boxing movements and adding weights/resistance. Trying to be "sports specific." This to me is often wasted time, even dangerous, as these guys clearly don't have the technical expertise or experience to create an effective program utilizing these methods.

    I have found great benefits in using the gym as a place to improve my overall athleticism; complimenting my boxing. I use the boxing gym then to develop technique and boxing knowledge.
    I travel to spar and thats where I try put it all together. I try to train where I'm monitored by those more learned than myself and who's experience will prevent me from breaking myself!

    I guess the moral of my little tangent was; New techniques are wonderful when taught by people with the correct knowledge, but sometimes blind experimentation or attempted replication can be harmful.
