Really bad to hear this news.
I used to love watching him fight in his prime, this is a shock, hope Pavlik can
sort out his many demons.
Fair play and good luck to him.
Ward is now stuck in no mans land.
Bit of a shame he couldn't make a proper go of a comeback, the skills are there but think there was something missing mentally. Bit of a waste getting in to drink and the rest but anything can go on in another mans head. Best of luck to him but I guarantee we will see him back in the ring when the money dries up and his life goes quiet be that 1 year or or many years from now.
He doesn't strike me as the type of bloke to build another career or stay away from drink long enough to keep on the straight and narrow. Hope I'm wrong.
And to think he would lose to ward and the world would think pavlik was 100% lol
Didn't see this coming. I'd be willing to bet he'll be right back though.
Smart move by Kelly, quit while you still have your wits about you. I hope he made enough from boxing to last a lifetime.
I think he'll be back too. I don't think he was the same boxer anymore. His tuneup fights after he came back were awful and I was expecting him to make one last big payday and retire. I think he was too. Then the payday against Ward vanished and Bute is now not going to fight him so no last big payday. Hopefully he hangs on to his money and stays off the drink and doesn't have to fight again but it's more likely than not that we see him again at some point.
Pavlik had a few more good paydays left. Im surpised he retired.
But if the drink is affecting him theres no point.
It sounds like Pavlik does not have the heart for boxing and when a fighter is more concerned about his health and well being then you know his focus of fighting is not there anymore. Pavlik has made the right decision. I do hope he does not come back 5 years from now, I hope he stays retired.
Do not let success go to your head and do not let failure get to your heart.
