Cotto has had so many trainers.
Is freddie going to be able to do anything with him now?
I like cotto but this guy takes alot of punishment.

I think cotto will benefit from the physical training roaches fighters go through, i noticed that after his uncle left, cotto wasn't as physically conditioned as he was with his uncle(not as strong, not as menacing). And after he left his cuban coach(forget the name) he looked outta shape as well, or atleast in the wrong kind of shape for his style. He was perfect for mayweather fight, and hes margarito rematch, don't know why he left that coach. I beleive if he still had him he would've beat trout quite handily.
My opinion is because Cotto is at 154 now and Cotto really is at his biggest, a welterweight. I just don't think he has the size to compete at 154. I never have. Cotto is 4-4 in has last 8 fights. What's his best win at 154? Yuri Foreman? Passed-his-prime Margarito? Delvin Rodriguez will give him a run for his money.
I really don't think Roach can do that much with Cotto this far into his career besides different calisthenics and strategies against opponents. I actually liked Pedro Diaz and thought he did really well in preparing Cotto against Mayweather.
What weight does cotto really belong?
At worst, Cotto will be in top shape with a good game plan. That's the worst that can happen. Roach is one of the very top in business and his science sure can't hurt Cotto. I think that Diaz did a great job though, not sure that it was necessary to leave him.

That's the way it is, not the way it ends
I don't know now. I think he was at his best in his prime at 140 or 147. At the same time, could he make those weights now healthily? I have my doubts. That's why I say I don't know now. I feel like Cotto at this point in time is past it. However, he is still Cotto, and the networks love him. If he can earn big money, might as well march on. Tremendous fighter for this era and hats off to him. Don't get me wrong.
...maybe he can f*<k him in the @$$ !!!
Nothing
Theres only so much you can teach a fighter when their at this stage of their careers! He will get excellant spar work with freddy and he will be pushed once he's in shape to perform! He needs guys that will move to him not just run or pressure him because his legs will be tested and no matter what your training regiment is at old legs just get old on a boxer! I like Cotto for the same reasons tv and ppv like him........he comes to fight and he doesn't cheat anyone! I believe his best is far behind but with the correct opponents he could have entertaining fights without getting hurt! Wish he'd quit!!
Ray.
I agree with you, but if Cotto thinks Roach can help him then he probably will. A little better conditioning, and a confidence building trainer behind him can't hurt. I've always liked Cotto, I'm hoping Roach can help and I'd like to see see Cotto quit! He's not going to though.
Cotto is probably finished as a top fighter now, so no matter who trains him it will not help much. New trainer can mean new motivation and training methods but the key is for Cotto is to win and then take on the better fighters and make as much money before retiring.
Do not let success go to your head and do not let failure get to your heart.
When a fighter is at Cotto's level, an accomplished veteran, there is nothing that a trainer can do for him..
There are real tough trainers who can push him to train harder and help him mentally which is what Pedro Diaz did for him but because Cotto couldnt handle, he got an easier trainer in Roach..
What a joke. Roach isn't gonna do anything for him . Roach trains his fighters to be offensive and if he makes cotto do that, he's gonna get em knocked out ..
There aint shit Roach gonna do for him.
That is what is so puzzling to me about this move. Diaz is a boxers trainer and Cotto's defense has been much more tidy. Roach is a punchers trainer. Perhaps his offense suffered a bit under the Cuban but it also extended his shelf life. I've grown skeptical over these celebrity trainers. Some so good that they can train by phone. One of the first words out of Roaches mouth was getting Miguel to increase his use of the left hook. Relying on that punch is what got Cotto into many of the problems he had in the past.
