Here is the legendary Randy Turpin as a middleweight stopping Cockell and then helping him back to his corner like a proper gentleman.
I agree Marciano was a dirty fighter , also he wasn't that heavy , im sure Lolenga Mock would have given him hell , he once floored Haye you know.?
think about it.
Sounds like a case of some modern, sissified limpd!<k using today's criteria to judge the way a sport was 60 years ago...
Oh, I thought it was Paul Thomas the former porn-star turned porn-director...
In any case, clearly this old former Boxing ref and judge Paul Thomas has gone a little soft in the pate, happens with age...
Probably has several controversial scoring jobs in his past across the pond...
I also think Rocky should have been warned for not making Don a nice cup of tea afterwards.
I remember this fight , the commentator on British TV is none other than Eamonn Andrews
( of This if your life fame ) and he does a blinding job , makes it so exciting.
" lefts and rights from Marciano , and Cockell sways again " classic
Don Cockell was KOED in 11 rounds by Randy Turpin before he fought Marciano. which was his last loss before facing Rocky.
Sorry by the way Beanz I hadn't noticed your piece on the Turpin fight![]()
here it is boys, May 16, 1955 - Round 1, 3, 6, 8 & 9 - Cockell was one tough SOB.
I didnt see much Marciano cheating here, I DID see dozens of bombs snapping back Cockell's head though. Man could he take a punch. Some of those double left hooks Rocky hit him with in the 8th round would have KOed a horse. Rock at 188 pounds, Cockell at 206 that is rather significant isnt it.
