Default Jorge Luis Gonzalez in today's HW division

How would the big Cuban have done in today's lackluster era?

Sure, he lacked discipline and a good chin, but he had power, size and serious skills.

Gonzalez beat Bowe and Lewis in consecutive nights in the amateurs but had a modest pro career.

I say he'd beat most anyone today aside from the Kiltschkos, Haye and maybe Arreola.

He'd have been a titlist for sure.

A lot more than them beat him. Including the smaller heavyweights like Tomasz Adamek and Johnathon Banks. Gonzalez was crap. His best win was a 85 year old Alex Stewart. That says it all

Funny you say he had a bad chin, I can still remember the build-up to the Bowe fight where he was boasting about never being put down in his life. Bowe gave him a savage beating then left him facedown unconcious.

LOL... Gonzalez, as a pro, was a fat and lazy bum. Comrade Fidel had those guys training like they were in the military. But when he defected and got used to eating hamburgers and pizza, started to suck on pretty blondes and had more than enough Budweisers, he forgot that he had to stay in shape and fight.

He had the tools, but he was not a champion. Champions do the extra.

He was pretty bad. Just a carefully steered hyped up type with amateur cred and connections. The moment he stepped up against guys unimpressed by the bad attitude, telegraph hooks and stupid hair cut he went splat. In Tampa they literally pulled a guy out if the audience who proceeded to crap himself when hit and left the ring wrapped in a towel!

    Adamek yes, Banks maybe.

Gonzalez was a hell of a lot better than Oldenir Solis.

Taller at least and not prone to twisting his knee/ankle in title fights lol

Gonzales was hype as a pro, I think he was finished as a pro by having too many amateur fights and starting late.
