That's a crock of shit, might make Mendez the weakest champion in boxing. The punch that ended him was in following up a combination and was in motion right as the bell rang, he was in bad trouble anyways. It doesn't even mention a rematch either Guess he has the better promotion, what a joke.

I agree.. im a mendez fan so my my judgment was clouded at first but upon second review, that KO was legit..

Mendez is backed by mike tyson so he caught a lucky break..

Kind of shitty and ironic that when the powers that be finally stand up and decide to make change...right a 'perceived wrong', it happens to be one that was so obviously concluded and with an obvious end. Meanwhile there are a hundred plus fighters who were obviously shafted by random officials and judges shaking there heads. "Where's my text book 101 on micromanaging"

Exactly. Of all the times you'd pray for a commission to do something, they pick this one to overrule completely. I don't see how a rematch will go much differently, it's got to happen now.

Good! That's the right thing to do. The referee lost control of that fight. When they rematch Barthelemy will KO Mendez again.

Good call. Even though Mendez was on his way to being ko'd... it was/is the right call.
    Bigger man George, bigger punch!

Do not know what the problem is, a foul was committed, the powers that be have taken the right steps to correct it.
I do not care what anyone says, they are doing the thing. Teddy Atlas was wrong the night of the fight and he is still wrong. Teddy can take the alignment of the stars and stick it where the sun doesn't shine.
The rules are there to protect the fighters, every fight, all the time no matter what.

you are actually right... the ko was clearly after the bell... it was a clear of a bad decision as you can get... I think the cuban would still have easiley ko'd him later in the fight and that is what will happen in the rematch so whatever

I get what ur saying but if u watch the fight the punch that landed was before the bell rang completely. The whole thing was a farce. The ref was nowhere near the fights and the guy ringing the bell rang it like a church bell. Its suppose to be ding ding not ding..................ding.

However, having an organisation come in and overturn something like this and not overturn some of the other criminal things that happen in and ring and by judges at ringside is a bit daft to me.

I'm with the sentiment but only if it was all so universal. Rules "on paper" are bent like a limber Vegas call girl in this sport. No contest often means much more than it actually means . Rances was in mid combination and a guy is trained to follow through. The rules are only as meaningful as those who enforce them..and THAT ref blew the show much more than that final. As well as the cow bell used to signal the 10 second mark that no one heard. Now this, this is a clear DQ...not a NC. If only his name was not Riddick Bowe. The live version of this was criminal. They used "NC" here to CYA and the line was often 'well, he was going to ko'd him anyway'. Remember Marlon Starling vs Tomas Molinares? Check it out as it was be similar. The thing that gets lost on that replay and scenario was that Starling was actually punching with Tomas..he led a right, Molinares landed right counter a mili second at the bell. It to was a NC but reversed by the commisioner weeks later. In hindsight had roles been reversed they would not have thought twice about it standing I believe. Running on here, in a round about way its a good topic as ideal rules and boxing are often like a divorcing couple who get stuck in some elevator on the way to the attorneys office 10 flights up .
