Default Who is the number 1 Middleweight

Is it still Martinez or has Golovkin stepped up to number 1?

I think Golovkin would win today so voted him, Martinez is still the man who beat the man and better opponents in general of course though. If he looks like good and fresh beating Cotto, it would still be an awesome fight between the two.

Until GGG beats Martinez, or Martinez refuses to fight him, Martinez is number one. However, it's hard to say Martinez would win the fight, considering how Martinez looked last time out and how GGG has looked recently. Then again, GGG hasn't fought anyone remotely like Martinez yet. While Cotto isn't GGG, if Martinez beats Cotto in style, I might revisit my call.

GGG is clearly #1 in my book.. BUT there should be a Martinez / Golovkin fight. I think GGG can make the division the attraction it once was. I hope he doesn't go the weight tourism route & follows Marvin's example of defending his title against all-comers. It's a great natural weight division, like welterweight, and needs to be respected.
Also, the notion of the linear champ needs to be re-visited for christ's sake.. all this fucking around with ABC titles..!!
The fight needs to happen.. I think Martin Murray should have got a unanimous decision against Martinez anyhow .. GGG should go to Argentina and get the job done ... with all due respect to a great champ in Martinez..

GGG is the most active and dangerous middleweight around band is the best but to claim the title he does have to beat Sergio.

Look what happened when both fought Macklin. Martinez should have lost his last fight and has had trouble in his last 3. Golovkin has been destroying everyone in his path . Stevens, Macklin and Rosado are no push-overs

Martinez choosing to fight Cotto does not make the situation any clearer. GGG is certainly the busiest and Quillin is certainly the most over hyped. Golovkin is the man but until Sergio flat out ducks him, he has to be given the title of number 1. Sturm should fight Golovkin but he won't. Quillin should just fight already.

No one wants to fight Quillin. Like a few others, people just don't want to fight. I'm sure you can get Quillin in the ring with GGG for a fair sum.

To clarify too, I believe 2009-2010 Martinez beats current GGG. I just think Martinez has lost more than one step over those past 4 years with the knee injuries and I don't see him keeping GGG off of him consistently.

He's not gonna get the chance... Martinez is gonna retire first.

He's another Barker waiting to happen.

Martinez may retire but outside of Floyd, Triple G is the biggest money fight for him after Cotto
