Default Antonio Tarver Arrested for Fraud

Former boxing champ Antonio Tarver arrested in Pinellas | Tampa Bay Times

apparently tried paying with a check that had insufficient funds, in other words looks like he's already broke

Wow, yet another boxer squanders all his money and is without a pot to piss in...

The managers of these guys really have to sit down with them and explain the game to them, explain the importance of savings, RRSPs, whatever, because this has become the norm for boxers.

thing I don't get is he was making good money out of the ring on Showtime not too long ago, if he wouldn't have gone on to say some stupid shit he'd still have a good steady paycheck coming in, these guys need to use common sense and take responsibility for themselves

What did he say? I thought he got fired because he got popped for steroids?

It's a shame for Tarver, because he's HIGHLY articulate and well spoken for a boxer: commentating is right up his alley.

it was that and something he had said on Twitter that didn't help his case at all, I think it was some anti-gay comments or something of that sort, either way, if you have a good thing going don't fuck it up, that's why I love the way Malignaggi is as a commentator he holds back his personal feelings in a situation (for example when asked about Broner before and after his fight with him) and just stands on neutral ground, the way he should be, Lewis was another guy who couldn't keep his comments un biased

I have a suspicion that the managers encourage them to spend and throw away their money. A broke fighter is a fighter that has to fight, that has to accept the fight he's given, and that doesn't create too many waves for the manager/promoter.
    The key is Self-discipline.

    You're probably right. Scumbags.

It makes all the difference to get hooked up with a trustworthy guy. I remember from reading Sugar Ray Leonard's book that his manager was a top-notch guy (I don't think he was a "boxing" guy, just a businessman) who taught him how to save and invest his money and really looked out for him financially. It's a shame more guys don't get hooked up with guys liek that.

Zero sympathy for the guy, he is obviously carrying around a normal brain which he refuses to use.
How many stories about broke fighters does he have to hear? How many broke fighters does he have to know, before he listens?

.....so it's fair to assume that he hasn't been up in his gambling ventures of late
