    Default Sonny Liston ~ "Sonny Boy Could Not Care Less About The Public Perception"

    Charles 'Sonny' Liston

    Sonny could not care less about how the public felt about him. Being the World Heavyweight Champion
    did not mean much to the 'mob oriented' fighter.

    As a matter of fact, being Champion brought too much attention to the often 'in a bad mood''
    Charles Liston.

    Charkes 'Sonny' Liston >
    "I follow the money. If it's a good deal, that's all that matters to me. Trophies and Belts don't
    buy me no new Cadillac."

    "Being Champion means more to the Newspaper Writers and Sports people. They ain't me.
    The Title is just a temporary thing. Nobody has it forever. Look at what it did to Joe Louis."

    couldn't care less... As in could NOT care less...

    If you could not care less, it means that you care so little that you can't possibly care any less... If it is possible to care less then you have to care somewhat (potentially a lot).

    eg. "I could not care less about Bill Paxton's pointless posts"

    You're speaking on behalf of the public now? I must have missed the bit where they voted you their representative.

    I usually stay out of your innate threads, you have a habit of showing up in Ali threads like a fly on shit... It is usually in those threads (not your own rambling piss) where I put you in your place.

    I hope I at least educated you on the correct usage of the complicated, three letter word 'not'...

    Yeah well its not a which came first the chicken or the egg kind of question. I mean the title says it all and the public could not care less about his perception of them. He never won them over because he never tried to. Its kind of twisted in a way because boxing has always been full of savory characters and bad ass fighters but it was not ready for Liston. Wrong era. Had he came along in the eighties he would have been Mike Tyson.

    I find it disrespectful for him to say
    Look at what it did to Joe Louis
    after all he was Joes drug runner and most likely introduced him to heroin.

    Sonny Liston vs. Cassius Clay

    People forget, no State Boxing Commission wanted this fight.

    They turned it away in >
    * Nevada
    * Michigan
    * New York
    * Illinois
    * Colorado
    * California
    * Ohio
    * Pennsylvania

    The reason >
    Sonny was 'bad news'.

    Only the 'Dundee Connected' Miami Boxing Commission took it on......

    Could be, but I doubt it. He was definitely a loner, but probably cared about what the public thought of him.
    He didn't have much schooling, if I remember correctly, so his standoffish, I don't give a shit attitude was probably a defense against people wanting to chat him up. I'm too big, mean, bad and scary to care what people think of me.
    You have to be a real monster to not care what people think of you.
    I remember reading that he had little white friend, a neighbor I think, that he would take along once in a while. That doesn't seem like a monster to me and children are a lot less judgmental than adults, a nice fit for Liston.

    "Sometimes I'm not too proud to be an American. I get treated like dirt. Yea, it's true
    that I was no Choir Boy growing up. But everybody makes mistakes."

    "The Championship has brought me a few good things. But, it also has brought some
    bad baggage was well. Being Champion is not at all what's it's cracked up to be."

    "To be honest, I'd rather be left alone."

    I read Sonny was very disappointed that there was not a big reception when he got back to his home town after he beat Floyd. He was champion of the world! It must have hurt him.

    Correct,

    Soon after,

    Sonny left Philadelphia for Denver.

    But the booze intake {J & B Scotch} started to increase.

    So he was disappointed and hurt and did care about public perception.
