    Default Rurik Jutting

The woman, who dated Jutting for several months, said the British banker told her that he was depressed and "under pressure with his job"

Hong Kong sex worker murder suspect Rurik Jutting was "depressed" and said he had tried to kill himself, an ex-girlfriend has claimed.

The woman, who did not want to be identified, said the British banker - who was arrested after the bodies of two prostitutes were found in his apartment on Saturday - had told her he was "under pressure with his job" when they met.

She told Channel 4 News in a phone interview that Jutting was always stressed about work had discussed "suicidal thoughts."

"When I first heard the news [of the bodies being discovered], I didn't really believe it. I never thought he could do that. He was such a nice person," she said.

"Last October he told me that he tried to kill himself," she said. "I think he tried to kill himself because he's under pressure with his job. He was depressed."

She said Jutting, who has been charged with murdering the two sex workers, was a 'perfectionist' who could be strict at times, but that he was "a very nice person."

Cambridge-educated Jutting, 29, appeared in court this morning charged with the two murders.

Dressed in a black New York T-shirt and black trousers, Jutting spoke only to confirm he understood the charges he is facing.

His lawyer Martyn Richmond told the court Jutting did not want to apply for bail, but instead of going back to the police cells, wanted to be locked up in the island's prison.

Officers were stunned to find the two women slaughtered in what detectives described as a “sea of blood,” in the early hours of Saturday.

Police are believed to be examining 2,000 photographs found on Jutting's mobile phone - some of them apparently graphic images of the dead women - to identify other potential victims.

The murdered prostitutes were known to bar workers in the red light district of Hong Kong and used the English names “Jesse and Alice”.

Alice, whose naked body was found tied up in a suitcase on the 31st-floor balcony, has been identified as 25-year-old Sumarti Ningsih, from Indonesia.

A second woman in her early thirties, who goes by the name of Jesse Lorena, was last seen in the Queen Victoria bar at around 8pm in Wan Chai on Friday night, heading off to a Halloween party.

She was found dead the next day naked in the living room with knife wounds to her neck and buttocks.

According to local reports, a large quantity of cocaine and several sex toys were found in the flat.

Officers also recovered a knife which they believe to be the murder weapon.

Police are examining CCTV from the apartment building.

Jutting, who attended Winchester College, an independent boys school in Hampshire, grew up in Chertsey, Surrey, where his family lived in a Grade II listed home.

He went on to study a Peterhouse college at Cambridge University before obtaining a banking job with Barclays in Canary Wharf, London where he worked between 2008 to 2010.

The high-flying banker then obtained a job at Bank of America Merrill Lynch who he also worked for in London before moving to Hong Kong with the investment banking firm, earning a six-figure salary.

If convicted of murder he faces spending the rest of his life behind bars.

Police arrived at an apartment in Wan Chai, the red light district, at around 3.45am on Saturday to find a man “covered in scratches and blood”.

They are understood to have found the body of Jesse in the living room area who was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.

A large suitcase containing the body of Ms Ningsih wrapped in a carpet was then found by officers who opened the doors to the balcony.

Sources reported by local media said she was “nearly decapitated and her hands and legs were bound with ropes.”

Jutting will appear in court again on 10 November.

The Mirror reports that he left a message on his Out-of-office alert:

"I am out of the office. Indefinitely. For urgent enquiries, or indeed any enquiries, please contact someone who is not an insane psychopath."For escalation, please contact God, though suspect the devil will have custody. (Last line only really worked if I had followed through…)"

If that doesn't prove it was premeditated, then what does. Sounds like a rather disturbed guy...
