this is a tough one indeed. I say cotto wins the battle, but alvarez gets the nod.

I think this is pretty straightforward. If they had fought a year ago at LMW, Canelo would've been favourite and Would've won. Neither of them are proper Middleweights (In Canelo's case , not yet) , so I see no reason why Canelo Wouldn't win.
This is a genuine win,win fight for everyone. Cotto makes a fortune , Canelo goes into the MW division with a belt that makes him relevant.
Let's not get carried away with Cotto's win against Martinez. Right place , Right time.
Alvarez beats his ass... and you all know this.
I agree, Cotto has the brains in his corner but I really can see him holding up against the youth and activity of Alvarez. Cotto would need something early to keep Alvarez honest, so he could dictate the pace of the fight and its hard to see that happening. Cotto hasn't faired all that well against durable pressure fighters

They want your @$$ beat because upsets make news. News brings about excitement, excitement brings about ratings. The objective is to bring you up to the tower and tear your @$$ down. And if you don't believe that, you're crazy.

Alvarez ain't no gimp.
Alvarez all day long. Bigger, stronger, faster, hungrier and more likely to be favoured by the judges.
A few years ago maybe Cotton, but I can't see it now.
