Adamek Retires

Former light heavyweight/cruiserweight world titlist and world heavyweight title challenger, Tomasz Ademek, has decided to call an end to his fifteen year professional career.

“I am not able to fight the best , I am not able to give of yourself as much as in previous years, so the decision can be only one . It’s over.”

The 38-year-old Polish star expressed only one regret, and that was not moving up to heavyweight earlier in his career.

Although a 2011 title shot at WBC heavyweight champ Vitali Klitschko proved to be a messy and one-sided affair leading to a tenth round TKO, Adamek was able to find a decent amount of success among the big men. Victories over Chris Arreola, Eddie Chambers, and Michael Grant proved that he belonged among the very best, despite never quite making it to the elite level.

This past November, the popular Polish fighter lost a unanimous ten round decision to tough, by limited countryman Artur Szpilka, marking his second straight defeat.

Yeah it was time to hang it up. He had some great fights, he is a hero in his native Poland, and he was a crowd favorite. Cheers to a good career.

Who cares if he beat one of my favourite boxers. It doesn't make anybody a bum to lose to Adamek!

The problem with you, is your favourites from years past can lose multiple times to cruiser bums and that's ok. But top boxers of this era can lose only a single fight to other top boxers wth clean records and a few weight classes heavier than your favourites and then SUDDENLY they are bums?

Double standards!

Adamek went a veryomg ways on sheer toughness, some skills, and a good short right hand.

He was a thrill to watch at light heavy and even cruiser.

As always with these announcements, I hope he sticks to it and is well off.
