Money talks, and things could change, but I did say this is what would happen. He's clearly happy financially , and I genuinely believe him when he says that he can't motivate himself for the Degale fight.
I'm not a Froch fan , but there are things I respect about him, and one is that he doesn't feel that money can and should be his motivating factor for Degale, it should be about desire!
Should really push for a Ward rematch then, but he does seem quiet on that these days. He's old, fair enough, he knows his limits.
Shock Horror! I 100% agree with Erics!!!!
Iaminuit, the thing is if he fights Degale, as the Champion, he's entitled to probably 80-85% of the Purse (like when he fought Groves 2nd time around.) If he fights Chavez , there won't be a title on the line because he'll be stripped of it, so it will be a 50-50 split at best. Crazy as it seems,Maybe Chavez would get more because without Chavez, there is no Vegas interest.
When Khan topped the bill at Vegas against Alexander , his purse was only reported to be $600-700K (£450k ) Froch's purse v Groves2 was £8M !!!
Even if he earnt double what Khan does (say £1m) and put that against if against Degale he earnt 30% of what he did against Groves 2 (say £2.5M) , he would be way better off fighting Degale.
Froch is only interested in Chavez (cos he thinks it's easy or very winnable.) in Vegas (cos it ticks a box) and he sees that as enhancing his legacy more. that's the way FROCH sees it Iaminuit, whether it makes sense or not.
One of the reasons for fighting Chavez was to fight in Vegas and suck up a little of the madness that is Vegas. I hope the experience, if it happens, lives up to their expectations.
Who knows, the experience might get the juices flowing again for Froch.
In my opinion, Froch has given plenty to boxing and his fans and deserves the right to call it quits the way he wants, without having to listening to a load of BS about legacy.
True enough but that troubles me. So he's basically telling Chavez and the world its his last fight. When fighters do this, more often then not it ends badly. The fact that he cant get up for the act but can for a location would worry me as a handler. Now it could reinvigorate him also and I guess he could use that steam to finish off in Nottingham.
Five years ago, he'd be all over the Degale fight.
The big lights under Vegas and to beat the legend's son is how he wants to go out, so be it.
He has earned it. Just like Lennox knew his best days were behind him-and walked away from a lucrative rematch agauinst Vitali, so too, Froch IMO is doing the same.
Eddie Hearm claims its 85% a done deal and Froch might earn around £8 million which is more than what he got in the 2nd Groves fight.
