Default Kovalev withdraws from Friday's purse bid

What the hell? We've waited and waited for this fight and Kovalev pulls out?! They say they are willing to do a 50/50 fight on HBO which is the same as saying we don't want the fight. Boxing is getting more frustrating all the time. Call for the fight, call for the fight, call for the fight then don't take the fight. Straight out of Arums playbook. Sad.

Actually, I've been a bit happier about boxing with its entrance to cbs. This is the first I've heard of this Kovalev thing. Intersting, where did you read it Ron, I'd just like to read a bit more.

It's true, they talked about it in out newspaper here (it's in French): http://www.journaldemontreal.com/201...valev-en-peril

All in all, it says that the purse bid was done too soon and that it's problematic somehow for Main Event. the 50/50 deal with HBO also seems true but in the article Kathy Duva is stated as saying as she's open for negociations and that her offer "was fair".

To me, it says that she wants to get a bit more time in order to be better prepared for the best negociation possible. I wouldn't go as far as to say that the fight is in a big jeopardy; I'd simply say that "there's a possibility that the fight might not happen"

Disappointing to say the least. One can only hope that if the fight doesn't get made in the immediate future, that it still happens not too long after. Let's not get into another Floyd-Pac fiasco.

    Kov bottled it.

Just like 90% of all boxers, all mouth but when it gets down to it, he wants the no risk fights.

Haymon isn't going to HBO, it's a fake offer.

This is Pac all over again. We want to fight we want to fight we want to fight. Oh, we're the mandatory and up next to fight, remove me from that spot please.

Everyone kept saying in both situations that Floyd/Stevensen needed to be forced and when Pac/Kovalev had the cards to force their hands they folded.

In the first occasion it wasn't even remotely surprising but this one I really don't think Haymon fancies the fight and given this out we may never see it.

Like was mentioned earlier the PBC has brought a lot of momentum to the sport but this is a real disappointment.

It's nothing to do with the fighters.

Rival TV networks/promoters stop more fights happening then anything else. Kov's mob are not beating Haymon in a purse bid which means they're off HBO.
