WBA on The Andre Ward vs. Carl Froch Situation - Boxing News

What a joke, how has Ward not been stripped Makes no sense. Froch can fight Ward for the super belt apparently.

I don't think it really matters. Those two have elevated themselves beyond owning a belt as far as I'm concerned. Everyone knows the score, they don't need a trinket between them for the fight to happen or for it to have any significance. Don't try and understand the workings of a governing body. It'll just give you a headache.
When God said to the both of us "Which one of you wants to be Sugar Ray?" I guess I didnt raise my hand fast enough

Yup. And I see why the sanctioning orgs do this- so not one fighter can manipulate holding the belt for any particularly lengthy period of time. No offense, just fair to the other fighters.

It's not for the good of boxing it's for their pockets (sanction fees).

As Memphis said - belts don't mean anything once a fighter gets to Froch's position in the game.

Casual fans don't know the difference between the WBC, W-BNP, W-IRA or W-PONY title. As long as it's a shiny belt called world they'll buy it.

Bods that get to Froch's position - fame outside the boxing world, massive fanbase, PPV fighter, worldwide recognition etc, won't lose his audience because of a belt.

Belts are clearly important for younger fighters and "no fans" fighters though.
