    Default Caitlyn Jenner

So..... it looks like Caitlyn Jenner is getting way more press than Bruce Jenner ever did.
Apparently he (sorry.... I refuse to say "she") is in line to receive the Arthur Ashe Courage Award at this year's ESPYs.

Also, the IOC has denied an online petition to have Jenner's gold medal from the 1976 summer Olympics revoked.
Any thoughts on any of this?

Not a "hero". The media is stuck on stupid with all of this. Do what you do and be who you are..thats great but cancer survivors are courageous..not someone undergoing elective surgery in the middle of sweeps week and being paid millions for a "reality show".

    That said...I would

Ever? I think Bruce got PLENTY of publicity when he was America's Golden Boy in the 1976 Summer Olympics. Why the fuck would the IOC take the medals he won away? I had not heard of that and if true it's ridiculous (not that I pay much attention to the World Exercise portion of the Olympics anyway....but still ridiculous).

As for Bruce deciding to become Caitlyn...I really don't care. If that's how fucked up he is in the head that this is his new normal, then well he's only doing it to himself so I guess that's fine. I don't believe a rational person would CHOOSE this lifestyle so he must really feel this way. I don't know what kind of mental issues Bruce dealt with or is dealing with, but as long as he's not hurting anyone else I say just let it go.

I've got a friend who has gone that route....I do worry for them. Life isn't easy to start with, but to throw that whole deal into it.....it's just not something I believe someone would willfully choose for themselves. Maybe turning into a woman was easier for him than being gay or bisexual, but whatever it is I cannot understand it. I couldn't understand the "Heaven's Gate" cult where the men castrated themselves....I mean when you've got a sharp object near your balls I assume that you fucking think long and hard before the cutting begins.

He has been married 3 times, fathered several children, says he is still sexually attracted to woman, all while having always identified as a woman. That is a mixed up individual, and fair enough, he pays his own way and fed his kids.
While I am fine with any and everybody being whatever they feel they need to be, don't throw it out there and expect me to co-sign it. Or celebrate it.

Good posts. I agree about the IOC. Jenner earned that medal when he was Bruce back in 1976... and that still holds true. You can't go back and strip a person of a medal earned almost 40 years ago because he's made some unfortunate (and sick) life choices. As far as the award... I agree with that also. I sickened me when I read he was going to receive the award. (Notice I keep saying "he". Just a gut reaction). There are athlete's way more deserving than he. Making a life choice of that type isn't courageous. Personally I think it's extremely selfish to be putting that burden on his kids after a lifetime of having been a dad for them.

Fucking retarded that people want his/her medal revoked. IOC should have even acknowledged the morons that started/signed the petition.

I 100% support trans rights: if changing sexes makes you happy, go for it. My general philosophy is that everyone should be free to find their happiness as long as it doesn't hurt others. So good for Caitlyn Jenner and all the other trans people.

Personally I'm sick of hearing about it. I never watched the interview, I don't care what her new name is, I don't care if she still has a penis or how she looks in women's clothing. No interest whatsoever.

I'll say that there's a lot about this transexual movement that just doesn't gel with me intellectually. Like I said above though, I support the rights of transexuals and if that's what makes them happy, I'm happy for them.

As a guy who doesn't believe in religion and "souls" and all that other stuff, when someone says "I was born in the wrong body" I just don't believe it. To me, you're born a man or you're born a woman, and that's what you're always going to be. The burly, macho man who lifts weights and eats steak for every meal is a man, and the femmy homosexual who acts and talks like a woman is also a man. The sexy chick on the SI cover is a woman just like the butchy 230lb lesbian with the crew cut who can out benchpress most guys is a woman. There are a lot of chemical differences, but they were born with the parts and with the blueprint.

We have people who think they're fat when they're skinny: we call them anorexic. We have people who think they are different people, hear voices, have multiple personalities, ect ect, we classify them as having a disorder or a mental illness. So my question would be why is it that when a transgendered person says "I was born a man but I'm actually a woman trapped in a man's body" we say "HEY, you're right" and just accept that. Isn't it possible that transsexuality in itself is a mental illness or disorder? To me it's like if an anorexic person went to the doctor and said "OMG IM SO FAT" and the doctor said "yes, yes you are. Have you considered stomach stapling?"

How is it any different than if I said "I was born white, but I'm a black man stuck in a white body. I identify more with black culture, all I listen to is rap, RnB and reggae, I'm only interested in black women, ect". How would my claim be any less legitimate?

Maybe my views are out of touch but I can't help feeling that way. I kind of think it's a load of bullshit.

The LBGT etc movement is being pushed down everyone's throat....it's a MINISCULE portion of the population. ENOUGH! WE GET IT! You're odd but don't want extra attention unless you DO want extra attention but then you want attention like a normal person who is an attention whore but differently.....yeah you're awesome special little snowflakes

    Understood.

To be honest I think all this tolerance and blind acceptance of anything and everything is simply ridiculous. There are people who are giving their prepubescent children hormone blockers because they identify as the opposite sex....it's complete madness.

Bruce Jenner was an amazing athlete. Caitlyn Jenner is a cult of personality.

I've got a friend that I have known since elementary school who is Transgender. I understand (to a degree) why he decided to transition to a she. There was a huge stressor that occurred that had it not I believe that my friend would have just been bisexual. I think life is tough enough but to choose to make it tougher in this manner...it just is something that is confusing and I worry about the health and safety of my friend as I'm sure people feel the same about Bruce/Caitlyn.

Also the more insanity we are tolerant of the more actual everyday gay people get pushed aside which is quite the liberal conundrum.
